Roy & The Devil’s Motorcycle is one of our favorite bands. They have been tenaciously and joyously doing their own thing in rural Switzerland for 20 years. In the beginning their influences: old, dusty blues records, gospel, dirty garage, Spacemen 3, 13th Floor Elevators, Gibson bros, later added to these for example Lee „Scratch” Perry, Red Krayola. They has made only three albums during the years.*

*I know a band who has made 27 albums + 7 albums with their side projects + 8 solo albums + 8 DVDs + at least 20 mixtapes + some singles, EPs and splits between 2010 and 13… Moreover they have made a film recently.

Hair-raising

NASHVILLE, TN Jack White’s Third Man Records to release the complete life-works of Charley Patton, Blind Willie McTell and The Mississippi Sheiks on vinyl in chronological order. These performers were enormously popular in their time, but their songs are almost unlistenable for the ears of today.

Charley Patton (1891-1938), the most influential delta blues guitarist was such a big star that he didn’t wander all over the Mississippi Delta in contrast with fellows. He performed on pre-organized shows only. He drove the public crazy with his playing and tricks. Lot of his songs were recorded between 1929-30 and 1934.

Poor Blind Willie McTell (1898-1959) lost his eyesight in his childhood. Soon after lost his father, then his mother, so went whither he could. Wandered in Georgia with his 12 strings guitar. His records were frequently released between 1927 and 35, but under different names because he signed contracts with concurrent labels under different names. (It was a generally established custom in that time.) After his record of 1949 he became itinerant musician again. In 1956 a record shop owner recognized him at a corner in Atlanta. The man lured him to his shop with a bottle of corn whiskey. During some shows his last tracks were recorded there.

The Mississippi Sheiks trio had records between 1930-36. Everybody knows his greatest hit: Sitting On The Top Of The World. One of them, Bo Carter made a solo carrier with such unambiguous, expressive songs as Please Warm My Wiener!

Their songs were played and covered by rich and poor,
but the original performers lost behind the covers. They are.

The third items of series are coming soon.

“Here’s 3 ugly lookin blokes, tourin’ the world, playin at all these wonderful cities, dining at all these wonderful restaurants, meeting all these famous people. In the back of ya head I’m thinking to myself ‘Im a fuckin’ farmer!” – one of the members of Cosmic Psychos said.* The old Aussie punk rock band formed in 1982, and over some line-up change and an untimely death by heart attack they still rock on. Their music is garage punk hard rock’n’roll like Motörhead, Stooges or Ramones. Strange though it may appear they had a significant influence on the Seattle Sound in the 90s through their some fans: Kurt Cobain, Eddie Vedder (Pearl Jam), Buzz Osbourne (The Melvins) or Donita Sparks (L7). Now the Goner and the Aussie Aargth Records re-release their first three albums.1st track from 1987, 2nd & 3rd from 1989.

*I Love My Tractor – is the title of their latest and live album (2013)

Most már szeretitek őket, mi??

3 IN 1

mrelevator

a really great 60s style psychedelic rock band

Mr. Elevator & The Brain Hotel

– What was the first own record in your life?

WB: I remember this like it was yesterday… I heard this band in the 90’s when I was about maybe eight or nine years old called Goldfinger, and they had this record called “Hang-Ups” and I bugged the shit out of my dad to take me to Warehouse Records to buy the CD. So I FINALLY saved up the money to buy it, and my dad took me and I bought it! It was the greatest feeling ever and was the first record I ever bought with my own money. I still have the original copy and listen to it in my car!

– What record made the biggest influence on you?

Ignacio:  Yellow Submarine. The song „Hey Bulldog„, definitely a game changer.

– What was the last record that you heard?

Tomas: I just stumbled upon a bargain record find of this album called „Smash your head against the wall” by John Entwisle. AMAZING. It’s this early 70s heavy psych record that throughout the album slowly swindles down from its heavy beginning and eventually to the last song which cuts to a nightmarish chant of Rudolph The Rednose Reindeer. It’s righteous.

Debut LP is coming soon by Burger Records The latest 7”
