Az estét a THE BEANS pimasz kölykei nyitják, akiket a RAKÉTA fesztiválon volt szerencsém látni, hallani és egyből megkedvelni. A KINKS korai évei épp úgy eszembe jutnak, mint a JON SPENCER BLUES EXPLOISON vad pillanatai – mármint a koncertjükről és nem a még kissé túl sterilre kevert hangzóanyagjukról. No, de sebaj, színpadra állva rögtön kinövik ezt a gyerekbetegséget, vagyis: élőben kell őket megnézni, de azért biztos ami biztos, nyomjatok rá az alábbi lejátszóra is párszor!

Ezután lépnek fel örök kedvenceink, az RNR666 színpadán már jó párszor megfordult GUSTAVE TIGER zenekar. Sajnos és szerencsére ők már híresebbek, mint az Alsószentmártoni Krisztus, ez a teher azonban nem befolyásolja Gusztávékat: koncertjeik épp olyan durván agybaszóak, mint mikor először láttam őket a RETEK KLUB nemlétező színpadán 1763-ban.

Péntek lévén, a bulinak persze nem lesz vége a koncertek után: a zajos hangulat fenntartása érdekében a CYST records párosa, Lili és Bence áll az mp3 lejátszó mögé, kiegészülve egy hülye kopasszal.

Majd a világ egyik legfaszább one-man-band-je, a szörnyűséges JOE BUCK YOURSELF következik, aki egyenesen a south gyomrából érkezik közénk, hogy megmutassa, hogy hogyan is mulat(tat) egy valódi, skizofrén vadállat redneck.

Swiss psych garage blues rock and roll cult band
ROY AND THE DEVIL’S MOTORCYCLE
in BUDAPEST at RNR666 PARTY!

The band was founded 25 years back by three countryside brothers after they went to a Spacemen 3 show in the nearby big city. Their music is distorted rock and roll of the 50-60 years with a big spoon blues and dub technique in highly psychedelic manner. They’ ve only released 3 three albums on Voodoo Rhythm Records. In 2014 they made music for a documentary Tino – Frozen Angel about legendary Swiss counter-culture hero Martin „Tino” Schippert (1946-81), who was the president of Swiss chapter of Hell’s Angels. Because of a rape the Angels became a target of prosecution, he escaped from Switzerland. He lived in Lebanon, where he worked as a hashish farmer. But finally he went to Bolivia, and died there in a small village Tutilimundi, it means All Worlds.

About the songs

Johnny B. Goode is a 1958 rock-and-roll song written and first recorded by Chuck Berry.

Little Anthony and the Imperials is an American rhythm and blues/soul/doo-wop vocal group from New York City, their first single was Tears on My Pillow in 1958.

The song It Hurts Me Too is a blues standard. First recorded in 1940 by American blues musician Tampa Red. Elmore James (1918 – 1963) who was an American influential blues musician, recorded his own versions in 1957, and in the early 60s.

David „Junior” Kimbrough (1930 – 1998) was an American juke joint blues legend. Whose first single was released in 1967, but his first album came out just in 1992 by Fat Possum Records. The song Baby Please Don’t Leave Me taken from his last album Meet Me In The City (1999). In 2005, a tribute album was released with such artists as Iggy Pop, Mark Lanegan, Jack Oblivian, Black Keys, Spiritualized or Blues Explosion. Even Daft Punk also made a 15 minutes long re-edited version of a Kimbrough’s song I Gotta Try You Girl in 2016. Reputedly he was survived by 36 children.

The Ballad of Casey Jones is a traditional song about railroad engineer Casey Jones. It tells of how Jones and his fireman Sim Webb raced their locomotive to make up for lost time, but discovered a freight train ahead of them on the line, and Casey tried to stop the machine and save the passengers. His body was found lying under the cab, with his skull crushed and right arm torn from its socket. The fireman jumped just in time to save his life. The express messenger was thrown against the side of the car, having two of his ribs broken by the blow, but his condition is not considered dangerous. The train was only two minutes behind schedule.

Soon after Casey’s death (30 April 1900), the song was first sung by engine wiper and friend of Casey to the tune of a popular song of the time known as „Jimmie Jones”. As railroaders stopped in Canton, Mississippi they would pick up the song and pass it along. American country blues guitarist Walter E. „Furry” Lewis (1893 – 1981) recorded his version in 1928. Anyway he was a street sweeper for the city of Memphis, he held this job until his retirement in 1966.

Red Foley (1910 – 1968) is one of the greatest country musicians. He was an inspiration to rock ‘n’ roll, in particular Jerry Lee Lewis and Elvis Presley, who both covered many of his songs. Will the Circle Be Unbroken? is a popular Christian hymn, was written in 1907. The Red Foley version was published in 1958.

At the École des Beaux-Arts El’Blaszczyk was a student of Christian Eloy, the eminent composer of concrete music and head of the class of electroacoustic creation at the National Conservatory of Bordeaux

The film Desire Will Set You Free paints a picture of contemporary underground Berlin. It’s based on a true story: Ezra, an American writer of Palestinian and Israeli parentage living in Berlin, spends his days clubbing, taking drugs, having pseudo-philosophical conversations and wanting to be more punk, whilst wishing he wrote more. Most of his time is spent with his privileged dark, but witty friend Catharine, who has an unsettling fetish for Nazi paraphernalia. As the two of them look for their next excitement fix, they end up in one of Berlin’s famous gay hustler bars. Almost on a dare Ezra meets Sasha, a Russian immigrant working as an escort. Ezra pulls Sasha on a journey through Berlin’s underground and queer scenes…

Of course there is a soundtrack wich was inspired by trash music films from the 70s and 80s. There Blood Orange plays a Malaria! song, Peaches did a cover of Claire Waldoff the great lesbian cabaret singer from the 1920s, and also you can find songs by Molly Nilsson, Rollin Hunt, Anni Rossi, Nina Hagen, The Prostitutes, Genesis Breyer P-Orridge

and more. Furthermore Einstuerzende Neubauten and Blixa Bargeld appear in the movie too.

American director Yoni Leyser‘s previous film, a documentary about W.S.Burroughs, also with many musicians like Sonic Youth, Iggy Pop, Laurie Anderson, Jello Biafra or Genesis Breyer P-Orridge.

Christophe Clebard, a Belgian electronic musician, at the moment in Vancouver. His new cassette „Suce moi” will be released on 30th September by Canadian label Agony Klub.

Hard to categorize, but it is telling that he published music as Tucano on Italian NO=FI Recordings, home of strange other music (Hiroshima Rocks Around, Cheveu, Trouble Vs Glue, OvO, Dan Melchior, Maria Violencza and more). Of course RNR666 gave news from Tucano. Then I wrote about his music: psychedelic no wave disco with gothic and oriental moments. Then he used Italian, Polish and Englisn langueges, now he uses French. Some phrases what came to my mind by his brand new tape: minimal, electro, acid, techno, industrial, in 80s retro style, when the Belgian undergroung electronic scene was dominant. And it called a French music collective Grand Triple Alliance Internationale De L’Est to my mind, there are some similar acts like The Dreams, Klaus Legal or Cheveu.

Nagy öröm és megtiszteltetés számunkra, hogy a Goddamn Gallows után az amerikai hardcore country színtér egy másik kiváló képviselője JOE BUCK lesz a vendégünk szeptember 25-én Budapesten.

Joe Buck Kentucky állam egyik kisvárosában született. Még magyarországi mértékkel is kisváros, hisz csak tizenhétezren lakják. Egy farmon cseperedett fel. Elmondása szerint nem tud olyan korai emlékeket felidézni, hogy ne zenélt volna. A családban mindig szólt a zene, és mindenki zenélt. Tinédzserként elköltözött szüleitől, és ’79-től különböző nagyvárosokban punkoskodott, és – őt idézve – „zilliónyi punk bandában játszottam.”

Lakásában rendszerint üvöltött a zene, Ramones, Pistols, Clash, ilyenek. Egy nap becsengetett az egyik szomszéd, s így szólt: Amiket hallgatsz, az mind szar, tedd fel inkább ezt! Azzal átnyújtott egy Hank Williams Greatest Hits lemezt.

Na ekkor változott meg Joe Buck, azaz Jim Finklea élete TELJESEN. Innentől csak a country és az amerikai folk zene létezett számára. Ez a ’80-as évek elején történt, de a ’90-es évek közepéig nem játszott countryt, mert tudta, hogy a trükkök, fogások eltanulásához idő kell. Egyetlen zenekarának jelent meg lemeze ebből az átmeneti időből, a Gringo-nak. De ez sem punk zene volt, inkább Gun Club-szerű blues punk. Amúgy a Gringo mindkét nagylemeze igen jó kritikákat kapott akkoriban. Ezután a Legendary Shack Shakers-ben nyomult, ami egy viszonylag népszerű és elismert rock’n’roll zenekar azóta is.

Majd Hank Williams III oldalán találjuk, aki a nagy példakép és inspiráció, Hank Williams unokája, és country metal punk zenét játszik, amit ő csak Hellbillynek nevez, és tagja volt Phil Anselmo Superjoint Ritual-jának is. Joe Buck az ő Damn Band nevű kísérő zenekarában nagybőgőn, ill. Hank metál bandájában, az Assjack-ben basszusgitáron játszik.

One man bandként a kétezres évek eleje óta nyomul Joe Buck Yourself néven. Ugyan van pár CD-je, de a lemezkiadás nem nagyon izgatja, inkább a koncertekre összpontosít. Végül is állandóan úton van.

És hogy ki is valójában Joe Buck?

Swing Cremona is the fifth LP from Pierre Omer, but the first from Voodoo, even though their relation to Beat-Man is very old – from the seven LPs of The Dead Brothers (Swiss ‘funeral’ Rock n’roll) six were released by Voodoo, and members also regularly play at Reverend Beat-Man albums.

As the name of the band already suggests, this is a swing album, their own compositions, couple covers (Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington, Irving Berlin) and also the swinged version of ‘Miserlou’ familiar to many from Pulp Fiction. And I bet there is also one cover that RNR666’s favorite little toothless sonofabitch, Jerry Dammers (of the Specials) also played already.

I can again say this is a very good record, and not just for grandfathers! I consider myself an honest punkrock’n roller who also fancies death metal, and I still like it! Needless to say this stuff is light years from the pseudo-swing / old-timer crap that is so popular now in Hungary.

The mad professor-like character is the noxious communist vampire, Bela Lugosi, who evicted mayor of Budapest under the dictatorship of the proletariat in 1919 >>>

A rend tehát kezdettől fogva magában hordozza a káoszt, vagyis a rend ellentétét, hiszen a rend alapvető vonása, hogy minden más rendet megszállottan igyekszik magába olvasztani, s ezzel végső soron felszámolni. (…) Végül, mikor már nem maradt olyan alternatív rendezett struktúra, amely ellenállna az új és minden eddiginél totálisabb rend végzetes integráló hajlamának, ez az új, immár egyedüli rend maga ellen fordul, s önmagát kezdi felszámolni. This why one loves Voodoo Rhythm Records (for this as well..): Every now and then they find a brand new, young, only locally known band, like this one band from Naples that formed in 2015 (last year in other word) and they release them on vinyl and CD – pick your format.

What kind of band names itself ‘The Devils’ in 2015? One that’s young, dumb ass, don’t give a damn, simple, self-confident, and one that gets to the point. Well, all these fit them I think. The fact that they got their name after the 1971 Ken Russel movie, The Devils, sheds some light on why these lovers are dressed as a priest and a nun. According to them, they grew up on blues and punk, and they listened to a bunch of underground bands such as The Cramps, Hound Dog Taylor, The Gories, Jon Spencer, Fugazi, Hasil Adkins, The Oblivians.

They recorded their LP in Montpellier with Jim Diamond (bassist of The Dirtbombs!!!) when Beat-Man happened to be in the area, and he signed them right away. And rightly. The Record. When I say 10 songs in 17 mins, you can already suspect there are no elongated intros, psychedelic parts, etc. Instead we have hysterical grind and FUZZZ orgy!!!! Brute and primitive, so much so as the 17 minutes seems more like 37, and you don’t really have any feeling you are missing anything.

The lyrics also follow this concept. The obsessed repeating of words and half sentences. “Onan came on the floor / the priest touched me harder” and that’s it. Or “This town once was wild / but now it’s drunk” repeated 15 times. The music is of course total trash rock n roll, but towards the end of the record there are some instrumental pieces, that – if you were to repeat them for 1-2 minutes – could go for a stoner song, similar to very early Kyuss. And sometimes they remind us of our Finnish brothers, Black Magic Six (also a duo). Great release, great band, I definitely feel we will see them on the RNR666 stage soon!

Burai Árpád az idén 25 éves debreceni Lyuhász Lyácint BT. zenekar frontembere. A hazai industrial műfajban tevékenykedő BT mellett, korábban a jódli-metálban maradandót alkotó Spatzen Jodler Sextettnek is tagja volt. Ezúttal szólóprojektet indított, melynek első produktuma a „korog a világ” c. szerzemény. A produceri munkálatokat Csatlós Pál végezte, a klipet pedig Varga Tamás (Brownhandfilm) rendezte. A videót Debrecenben ill. Vámospércsen forgatták.

„A szólóprojektet tulajdonképpen a „korog a világ” szövege hívta életre. Eredetileg Lyuhász Lyácint BT. szövegnek íródott, de aztán úgy gondoltam egy önálló szerzeményként is megállná a helyét. A terv az, hogy a jövőben a nevem alatt futó projektbe meghívok egy-egy dal erejéig hazai underground zenészeket, főként a zajos szcénából és ezekhez a dalokhoz lehetőség szerint klipeket is készítenénk.” – fogalmazott Burai.
