from the album Donker Mag on Zef Records on CD and digital on 3 June

Die Antwoord (in Afrikaans = The Answer) is a South-African rave/hip-hop crew. They’re part of the Zef counter-culture movement.  The word „zef” is a shortening of the name of the Ford Zephyr that was popular worldwide from the 1950s to the 1970s. In South Africa, these cars were often owned by working-class people. Yo-Landi from Die Antwoord said about it: „Zef is, you’re poor but you’re fancy. You’re poor but you’re sexy, you’ve got style.”

A song from the next Godflesh EP. The first public track for 13 years. Like a classic

Decline And Fall EP on Avalanche Records (UK) in June.

Godflesh is one of the most influential industrial/drone metal bands. It was founded by Justin K. Broadrick (who was the guitarist of Napalm Death in 1985-86. His other projects: Techno Animal, Jesu, Final, Pale Sketcher) and G.C. Green in 1988. The band dissolved in 2002, and reformed in 2009.

„We are the soundtrack to the rainbow of human emotions”

Two young Slovenian keyboard enthusiasts produce great electro-industrial-noise-core-metal with only two keyboards and some samples. I have invited them to play at RNR666 Party and made this very short IT’S EVERYONE ELSE interview.

IEE1

RNR666 – I think it’s not your first band. What were there before?
Luci – Pika (the female part of IEE) was a singer in a few bands during her high school years but she never found the right people to complete her musical visions. I myself had a little noise project going on, but for the both of us the first „serious” band was (and still is) IT’S EVERYONE ELSE. We played our first gig under the name „Hold Your Horses” but as soon as we found our sound, we changed the name to IT’S EVERYONE ELSE, because we thought it was more appropriate.

How IT’S EVERYONE ELSE started?
– It started after we exchanged some demos and realized that our ideas are pretty compatible. We started rehearsing and we just clicked. A few months later we player our first concert and after that we just kept going and going.

What are your inspirations?
– Our biggest inspiration is life itself. Don’t get me wrong, we enjoy a lot of music, movies, books, paintings etc. and we get a lot of ideas out of that, but there is nothing as inspiring as people, emotions and social interactions. We are the soundtrack to the rainbow of human emotions.

Sirens + Nirvana – Stay Away cover

Can you play other instruments beside keyboards?
– We have no formal music education and we can barely play keyboards:) We don’t really care about notes, scales or chords, we just play what sounds good to our ears. I think we developed our own way of playing synths, which is much more similar to playing riffs on a guitar rather than playing piano in the traditional sense.

Their second album is released on vinyl by Noise Appeal Records (Austria).

A Kitty Ina Moonlight

The Amber Lights are an excellent prog rock band in Germany. Fine endless song and solos sure. Unfortunately I don’t like this style, the virtuosity makes me tired, but it doesn’t matter now, because here is a Kitty Ina Moonlight with Xanthe Waithe. She is an Australian writer, actress and singer, known from Mick Harvey’s solo recordings. And this

is such as if would come from those. Or from a Nick Cave album. But it’s from the last album of The Jeffrey Lee Pierce Sessions Project. And Mick Harvey and Nick Cave also took part in these sessions.

„Phil’s primary influences are the alt-country of Wilco, the surrealist melancholia of Sparklehorse and experimental rock of Califone, though more than a hint of Captain Beefheart’s magisterial influence can be detected in the lyrics and song titles. Ian brings bluegrass chops and punk sensibilities in equal measure, whilst Barney’s slide and fingerstyle guitar reveal a love of the pre-war splendor of Mississippi John Hurt and Blind Willie McTell”, but the time of the description Louisa wasn’t in the Cat Meat yet.

THE LEGENDARY X-RATED BUTTHOLE SURFERS SHOW AT DANCETERIA

The Butthole Surfers show at Danceteria in early 1986 has become the stuff of legend, but as is often the case, “legends” can be imperfect and are often reported on by someone not even born when the event in question transpired or by someone who didn’t bother to even check a single source other than Wikipedia.

Here’s Gibby’s version, as told to Option Magazine in 1993:

At the legendary Danceteria in New York during the early days of the Butthole Surfers, Gibby got caught drinking and tripping with his pants down. “Ten minutes into the show, I’d put on ten dresses – you see, I used to put dresses on and then tear ‘em all off,” he explains. “But I’d gotten so trippin’ and so drunk. I forgot to put on my underwear. So I got down to my last dress” – he pauses for a well timed hiccup – “and, goddamn it, I was naked. “I looked over at [band members] Cabbage and Kathleen: Cabbage had come out from behind the drums and she had this Fred Flintstone plastic baseball bat filled with urine and was sprinkling it on the crowd. Kathleen was totally naked and bald. And all of a sudden it became like this sexual thing, and there I was with a semi-erect penis onstage, in between this girl’s legs, and about to do this thing. Then it kinda suddenly dawned on me what was going on and I was like, Whoa!”

After the show, the mentally and physically impaired Gibby caused some more trouble. “They tried to pay me and I tore up the check and threw it at the guy,” he says. “And I almost got in a fight with this gigantic doorman who would’ve just thumped me.” He pauses for a well-timed sheesh. “There’s just so many of those kinda things. “But really,” he adds, like a surgeon general, “before anybody goes out and takes a bunch of psychedelic drugs, they should first go and visit Roky Erickson down in Texas. He’s a casualty. That can happen, too, you know.”

„I started in September 2009. I had been in London during the Summer, and I was so miserable about being back home. I was just sitting in my room and thinking that I needed a hobby for the long Estonian winter. So I made a track called Lovecool.” Estonian art historian and synth pop artist Maria Minerva has sketched a soulful self-portrait of her own inner ecosystem of loves and labors lost to her new album. She has cited Brian Eno, Throbbing Gristle and Cabaret Voltaire as her influences.
