The Devils  Sin, You Sinners! / Voodoo Rhythm Records (2016)

This why one loves Voodoo Rhythm Records (for this as well..): Every now and then they find a brand new, young, only locally known band, like this one band from Naples that formed in 2015 (last year in other word) and they release them on vinyl and CD – pick your format.

What kind of band names itself ‘The Devils’ in 2015? One that’s young, dumb ass, don’t give a damn, simple, self-confident, and one that gets to the point. Well, all these fit them I think. The fact that they got their name after the 1971 Ken Russel movie, The Devils, sheds some light on why these lovers are dressed as a priest and a nun. According to them, they grew up on blues and punk, and they listened to a bunch of underground bands such as The Cramps, Hound Dog Taylor, The Gories, Jon Spencer, Fugazi, Hasil Adkins, The Oblivians.

They recorded their LP in Montpellier with Jim Diamond (bassist of The Dirtbombs!!!) when Beat-Man happened to be in the area, and he signed them right away. And rightly. The Record. When I say 10 songs in 17 mins, you can already suspect there are no elongated intros, psychedelic parts, etc. Instead we have hysterical grind and FUZZZ orgy!!!! Brute and primitive, so much so as the 17 minutes seems more like 37, and you don’t really have any feeling you are missing anything.

The lyrics also follow this concept. The obsessed repeating of words and half sentences. “Onan came on the floor / the priest touched me harder” and that’s it. Or “This town once was wild / but now it’s drunk” repeated 15 times. The music is of course total trash rock n roll, but towards the end of the record there are some instrumental pieces, that – if you were to repeat them for 1-2 minutes – could go for a stoner song, similar to very early Kyuss. And sometimes they remind us of our Finnish brothers, Black Magic Six (also a duo). Great release, great band, I definitely feel we will see them on the RNR666 stage soon!

Burai Árpád az idén 25 éves debreceni Lyuhász Lyácint BT. zenekar frontembere. A hazai industrial műfajban tevékenykedő BT mellett, korábban a jódli-metálban maradandót alkotó Spatzen Jodler Sextettnek is tagja volt. Ezúttal szólóprojektet indított, melynek első produktuma a „korog a világ” c. szerzemény. A produceri munkálatokat Csatlós Pál végezte, a klipet pedig Varga Tamás (Brownhandfilm) rendezte. „A szólóprojektet tulajdonképpen a „korog a világ” szövege hívta életre. Eredetileg Lyuhász Lyácint BT. szövegnek íródott, de aztán úgy gondoltam egy önálló szerzeményként is megállná a helyét. A terv az, hogy a jövőben a nevem alatt futó projektbe meghívok egy-egy dal erejéig hazai underground zenészeket, főként a zajos szcénából és ezekhez a dalokhoz lehetőség szerint klipeket is készítenénk.” – fogalmazott Burai.

THE GODDAMN GALLOWS play „gutterbilly” or „hobocore”, a unique blend of country, blues, rockabilly and rock and roll, „but still with just enough hardcore and punk influence to make your parents hate it.”

It was founded as a trio in 2004 somewhere in Michigan, in the heart of the rust belt. Once it was named as steel belt because of the grade of industrialization. The decline occurred gradually, as rust eats iron. It started in the middle of the past century, in the heyday of American dream. But a nightmare came to the end of the century: shrinking cities, abandoned industrial buildings and homes, high unemployment and crime rates – just because the economic courses were changed during the dreaming. For example there is Motor City, aka Detroit, where a music empire, the Motown, was established on the black workers. More than 1 million residents ran away from there, and the city lost 61.4 % of its population (1950: 1 849 568, 2010: 713 777).

The band moved forward West, where they lived in abandoned buildings, squatter camps, storage units and shoebox apartments, and mainly on the road. Where they picked up stray musicians along the way during endless tours, so the band is a quintet today, and you can find there such instruments like accordion, banjo, mandolin and washboard too. Fortunately their drive has taken them to Budapest at RNR666 PARTY. Here are more smashing shots about that frantic show by Márk Martinkó.

In 1992 when the coach of the gothic country band Denver Gentlemen temporarily broke down David Eugene Edwards went forward with 16 Horsepower, while Slim Cessna has found his Auto Club, a christian, but apocalyptic country band. And so punk, that Jello Biafra signed them for his label Alternative Tentacles. (For what he was critizised by the dumb punk community.) But the new album ‘The Commandments According To SCAC,’ will be released soon by their own label SCACUNINCORPORATED in the US, and Glitterhouse Records in Europe.

Tényleg semmi másra nem vágytunk idén nyáron, mint, hogy valahogy, akárhogy csak éljük túl a kibaszott hőséget – éppen ezért eszünkbe sem jutott a nyár kellős közepére koncertet szervezni, a 100-as Klub Schlekije viszont egy olyan visszautasíthatatlan ajánlattal jött elő, amit egyszerűen nem tudtunk kihagyni. Így történt tehát, hogy beszálltunk a GODDAMN GALLOWS budapesti koncertjének szervezésébe és így, egynappal a buli előtt még egy interjút is sikerült velük összehoznunk. Nesztek!

CS.P.: Hogy telik ez a jó hosszú túrné, hogy bírjátok? Van energiátok még bulizgatni a koncertek után meg út közben?

G.G.: Már 10 éve tournézunk nagyon keményen, de eddig ez a leghúzósabb túrnénk, 54 nap 53 buli, egy szabadnap. Azért mindig találunk alkalmat bulizgatni.

CS.P.: Hogyhogy nem Joe Perreze jött veletek erre az EU túrnéra, hanem Jayke Orvis?

G.G.: Joe meghatározatlan időre kilépett a bandából mert megszületett az első gyereke, most Iowában tetovál egy szalonban, nem is akárhogy!

CS.P.: Egy régebbi interjúban kérdezték tőletek ki lenne az a három zenekar akikkel a legszívesebben lépnétek színpadra ugyanazon az estén. Ti azt válaszoltátok: a Motörhead, Tom Waits és a Motörhead. Ősszejött ebből valamelyik?

G.G.: Sajnos nem jött össze, hogy játszunk a Motörhead-del, viszon Fishgutzzz egyszer lehányta Lemmy csizmáját! Tom Waits telefonját azóta is várjuk, de csak nem hív!

CS.P.: A korai időkben mikor még foglaltházban laktatok nem néztek rátok a squatterek úgy mint az ufókra mikor megtutták, hogy country/rockabilly bandában játszotok?

G.G.: Nem volt soha semmi probléma, általában úgy szét volt csapva mindenki, azt sem tudták mi van.

CS.P.: Én nem tudom eldönteni, hogy a Goddamn Gallows melyik oldalon áll. Sátán vagy Jézus?

G.G.: A Biblia a kedvenc mesekönyvünk ugyanúgy drukkolunk Jézusnak mint a Sátánnak ugyanis szeretjük a jó bunyókat.

CS.P.: Melyik az a zene amin nagyon meglepődnénk, hogy szerettek? Úgy értem, hogy például, nekünk van egy haverunk aki a legnagyobb extrém metálos, de szereti Tori Amost!

G.G.: Baby Genius (dob) szereti a Blink 182-t, Fishgutzzz (bőgő) szereti az ilyen rádiópopot mint az Izzy, TV Avery (mosódeszka/harmónika) meg szereti az Abbát.

Craig’s band is Scott & Charlene’s Wedding, named about a golden act of an Australian soap oper Neighbours, when Kylie Minogue and Jason Donovan got married in 1987. Anyway 3rd album Mid Thirties Single Scene will be released in September by Fire Records (UK).
