For twenty years API UIZ was a polyrhythmic multicolored punky math rock-like trio from Bordeaux. They have influenced an entire generation of French musicians by the ferociously independent way they play and produce „raw, unworked, but structured music” which was the title of their debut album: Musique brute et non travaillée mais structurée.
Since 2015 API UIZ is a quintet. „Peplum”, their first album with the extended line up released now on 12″ vinyl on Kythibong, Les Potagers Natures, Mon Cul C’est Du Tofu, La République Des Granges, Attila Tralala (Belgium) and Red Wig Records (Germany):

– How turned this stupid name Mountain Bike out? I’m especially curious about the circumstances of the name giving. It was during a crazy night, or was it a hangover in a café, or a lazy afternoon? How did it happen?
– Well you know, we had no ideas, picking a name is always a pain in the ass. This band wasn’t supposed to last, It was just a joke. Running out of proposals, we chose „Mountain Bike” because we saw someone wearing a Mountain Bike T-shirt. How stupid is that?! And you? How did you end up with such an original name? R’n’R 666…
– It was a beautiful May afternoon. I was walking along the boulevard Nagykörút in Budapest when my phone rang. Lavór called me and asked
– Hey, want to do a biweekly rock and roll radio show with me and Pali?
– Why not?
– Ok. Then find its name out!
I went in Csiga Pub on the Rákóczi tér and ordered a beer. I was sitting at the table, the sun was shining, the beer was cold, and my brain played the song Killed by Death by Motörhead, and RNR666 was born. Anyway, what is the story of Mountain Bike? How did it start?
– It all started as a fun side project, we all had other bands as Thee Marvin Gays or Warm Toy Machine, but we wanted something a bit different with no pressure. We soon had a couple of songs that we recorded with only two mics as equipment. Our friends really liked it so we put out a 7″ and started to play shows. Then we recorded a whole album at a friend studio, and we found the Humpty Dumpty label, that helped us to promote our record. That’s about it. Belgian and French medias seemed to like our debut album and we got to play a lot of shows in several countries as Belgium, France, Netherlands, Germany, Italy, Switzerland, UK, et cetera. We got very lucky and now Mountain Bike is our main band.
And it’s a very funny and playful garage rock band. Sometimes so pop like the Blur. If you have pushed the play now you are listening to their first album, but the second album out now on HUMPTY DUMPTY (Belg) and TEENAGE MENOPAUSE RECORDS (Fra).

There are no many things to say about CAZZURILLO, one girl mess from Grinchland. She just composes melodramatic popular songs and performs them on her voice, guitar, bass guitar, drum machine and noises with visual smash up whenever/ however/ wherever/ whoever she wants. Pali: The band was formed in 1999. How should I picture The Experimental Tropic Blues Band of the day and how were the concerts?
Boogie Snake (guitar): We haven’t changed too much, except that we don’t play neo blues the way we used to. We’re more a surrealist para-rock band now (or Belgian handi-rockers). Concerts were really fun, it’s rare when we don’t enjoy them!
Your line-up hasn’t changed, a rare thing. Do you click so well?
We do.We’re friends since high school and like the same kind of music in general. We tried to play with additional musicians, but it didn’t work that well.
You look like common and regular guys but you do get wild on stage as seen in Electric Cock’ video. What the bloody hell was that?!
LoL, yes I know what you mean. The electric dick is a way to prove that you can do music with anything! Even with your cock! Things went crazy when we played that song (Garbage Man, revisited). Dirty Coq (guitar, vocal) had also a few troubles with the cops in certain places.
You shared the stage with anyone around the place. Who were the ones who made you say: „wooow these guys really kick ass!!”

Pali: 1999-ben alakultatok. Hogy kell elképzelni az akkori Experimental Tropic Blues Bandet, és hogy kell elképzelni egy koncertet?
Boogie Snake (gitár, ének): Nem változtunk túl sokat azóta, kivéve, hogy már nem játszunk neo bluest úgy, ahogy akkor. Leginkább egy szürreális para-rock banda vagyunk, avagy belga nyomi-rockerek. Koncertjeink mindig nagy bulik, nagyon ritka mikor nem élvezzük azokat.
A kezdetek óta nem változott a felállás, ami azért nem túl gyakori. Ilyen nagy az egyetértés?
A főiskola óta vagyunk barátok, és általában ugyanazokat a zenéket szeretjük. Próbálkoztunk plusz emberekkel is, de nem működött valami jól.
