1. We never published any records.
2. We are support band only.
3. We play just slow songs.
4. No band photo!
were the basic ideas of British punk band Mekons when it started, but before their first gig in a punk festival the organizer told them – Fast songs or there is no show for you. So they played on double speed. After the show a man went to them and said: – Hey you are really great, I would like to release a single. Later when NME wanted a picture they went to a field and somebody made some shots from miles. After reject they built figures from coat hangers and took photos of them. Finally a photographer was sent by the music mag to crown the failure.
More later Mekons guitarist Jon Langford moved to Chicago in 1992 and discovered the similarities of country and punk, and formed alternative country bands as Waco Brothers (with a former Revolting Cocks and KMFDM member!) and Pine Valley Cosmonauts. Now here is his brand new album with FOUR LOST SOULS on BLOODSHOT RECORDS

16. – In a sense the rock was a new teenage religion of consumerism, designed by the ruling class to replace the outmoded Christian faith of antipleasure which had been so useful to them since the feudal age. The juvenile delinquent was the true believer of his new faith. Thus rock was impatient, lustful, fast, and rowdy

The Wall is recognized as one of the most famous concept albums of all time. Bass guitarist Roger Waters conceived the album as a rock opera during Pink Floyd’s 1977 In the Flesh Tour, when his frustration with the audience became so acute that he spat on them. Its story, which follows themes of abandonment and personal isolation, explores Pink, a character whom Waters modeled after himself and Syd Barrett who one time was the main songwriter of the band, but was fired owing to psychedelic behaviour in 1968. Later he turned into a silent mad. Well, Pink’s life begins with the loss of his father during the Second World War, and continues with abuse from his schoolteachers, an overprotective mother, and the breakdown of his marriage; all contribute to his eventual self-imposed isolation from society, represented by a metaphorical wall.
Ben Wallers said about: – I don’t find Roger’s lyrics embarrassing if I listen to The Wall with my Mom; but if I listen to Animals with my Dad, I get embarrassed and have to go to the toilet, sorry I mean bathroom.

Anyway Waters is the really interesting character for me. A hopeless case, an utter shit-head. Brilliant character actor and composer. But I have to confess it was burnt into me at age 11/12/13 when I got into ‘Dark Side of the Moon’, ‘A Collection of Great Dance Songs’, ‘The Final Cut’ and ‘The Wall’. I loved them unquestioningly.
So much so that he and Alastair Mackinven also from Country Teasers now show you THE DARK SIDE OF THE WALL on their song for song interpretation triple album under name of THE STALLION.
Apropos of their work they quote inaccurately the cop who shuts the jailcell gate on Woody Allen’s character in „Deconstructing Harry”: – Let me give you some advice: YOU’RE IN DEEP SHIT.
It will release soon on IN THE RED RECORDS (US)

There was a pretty boring „dream-pop outfit called Mezzanine Owls” in LA. Two of them (Zeitlin – guitar, Mu – drums) have founded ALPINE DECLINE, moved to Beijing to teach on Communication University of China, and reborn as a thrilling
nightmare pop / smokegaze / rust punk / acid greenhouse band
New album Life’s a Gasp by Maybe Mars Records (China)

My favorite electro Scotch, Jonnie Common, after amazing debut and too perfect and dry second, now here is his crazy third album, made exclusivley from sounds of his kitchen. It started with an oven door.
„The oven in my flat at the time made a really great thud noise when you shut the door, and I thought I really want to hear this as a kick-drum in a song.”
That one idea escalated into a whole album Kitchen Sound. It will be released with hishandmade fridge magnets soon on Song, by Toad Records.

About Takako Minekawa, her brand new album with Dustin Wong,
and a short interview
Dustin Wong & Takako Minekawa – Savages Imagination. Album review.
Let’s see my notes! Well, at first, who is Takako Minekawa?
Do you remember the J-pop explosion in the 90s? Exactly I think the members of shibuya-key movement, e.g. Pizzicato 5, Cornelius, Kahimi Kane, Fantastic Plastic Machine, Towa Tei, Maki Nomiya and others. Among them Takako Minekawa made the wittiest music. Her particular experimental electro-pop was influenced by the 60s French Yé-Yé and Brazilian Tropicalia movements, Pet Shop Boys and Kraftwerk, house and the fashionable electronic dance music of the 90s, for instance the Ninja Tunes’ artists. And her music was nevertheless unmistakeable Japanese. It was very playful and silly parade of sounds and moods. Between two catchy pop songs always was something peculiar, but funny abstraction, but often also inside the catchy pop melodies. Her records were released between 1995 and 2000, and there was a hit in 1996, Fantastic Cat
After 13 years silence she came back last year with a common album with Dustin Wong. He is a Hawaiian born half Chinese/half American guitarist. He grew up in Japan and went to college to the US. There he founded an experimental guitar duo with Matthew Papich (nowadays: Co La): Ecstatic Sunshine (2004-07), and a Deerhoofesque art rock band: Ponytail (2005-11). After the break-up he has begun solo career, and makes experimental guitar albums. And now here is the next Minekawa & Wong album. And it’s (or at least, I like it) better than the previous one. The music is very playful and silly parade of sounds and moods. Inside the songs, between two peculiar, but funny abstract electro-pop melodies, always are catchy pop tunes. Unfortunately many people averse to the phrase „pop”, and same time they consider „rock”, „metal” and „punk” as positive things, when there are many load of shit under the label of „rock”, „metal” and „punk.” This is pop, because this is not rock. Rather alternative disco a la Mouse on Mars.
And here is another strange thing. The „Savage Imagination” comes the Beastie Boys in my mind, while this is almost entirely instrumental album. And this fact has been observed after I listened to it many times! Well, their rate of creativity is equivalent with the mentioned boys.
LP and CD out on 22 September by Thrill Jockey Records (US)
CD and digital on Plancha Records (Japan)

The Dale Cooper Quartet is a trio, of course. But they never play as a three piece band naturally, because there’re The Dictaphones. The band originally formed as a quartet for an improvisation night in Brest (France) in 2002 in order to play a strange mix of Angelo Badalamenti and the German slow-core-jazz band, Bohren & Der Club of Gore style music. Mysterious, dark, smoky, jazz, exactly like a film by David Lynch. While they’re also under influence of Bretagne’s weather, landscape and people, of course.
from their first album „Paroles de Navarre” (2006).
It’s re-released by Denovali Records (Germany)
Denovali Swingfest, Oct 2-5, Essen with Frederico Albanaese (I), The Haxan Cloak (UK), Ensemble Economique (US), Pan & Me (F), Bohren und der Club of Gore (Ger), Never Sol (Cz), Thees Silver Mt. Zion Memorial Orchestra (Can), Ben Frost (Aus), The Samuel Jackson 5 (Nor) and more.
The program of Denovali Records varies from sometimes improvised darker experimental sounds, ambient, drone, indie and electronica to darkjazz, jazz or piano and string driven modern compositions.

There’s a book by Judy Blume: Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret. It’s „about a girl in sixth grade who grew up without a religious affiliation. Margaret’s mother is Christian and her father is Jewish, and the novel explores her quest for a single religion. Margaret also confronts many other pre-teen female issues, such as buying her first bra, having her first period, coping with belted sanitary napkins (changed to adhesive sanitary pads for recent editions of the book), jealousy towards another girl who has developed a womanly figure earlier than other girls, liking boys, and whether to voice her opinion if it differs from those of her friends.”
About these problems with really various style music from pop to punk by all-star girl group of Canberra, Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret. And surprisingly they’re so good than there we’re sold out shows only. Yes, were. The final show was on 15 Aug.
digital EP on Cinnamon Records (Aus)

Second common work of Hawaiian born half Chinese/half American experimental guitarist Dustin Wong (was in Ponytail) and Japanese pop star Takako Minekawa. It’s more playful than the previous one, because there are more J-pop moments. Takako sings about quantum physics, human consciousness, and flying above a desert all within the framework of Japanese puns in the song “She He See Feel”

Obnox is Bim Thomas Lamont, the drummer of raw blues band Bassholes. He has plenty of drive because he is working on two albums at the same time now. But before everything else he has thrown out an EP which is stuffed his basement jams. Harsh distorted rock and roll sometimes is like a strange Ministry.
