from the album ” K A U A ‘ I O’O A ‘A” on Fat Cat (UK)
Gentle Friendly started when David took some scrapped drums and guitars out of a skip in East-London. Cleaned the instruments and invited Daniel to “come and mess with the stuff” while he played his broken Casio MT-40. Eventually the guitars stayed out of use.

There’s an American experimental-rock duo Ahleuchastistas, which named himself from a Charlie Parker song, and a Swiss musician Antoine Lang, who works with human voice and electronic devices. They together are the Blind Thorns. Heavy listening

The American musician, Saul Conrad plays „hard to categorize”, perhaps „experimental chamber pop” or „other” music on piano and guitar with surprising key changes, nonsensical rhythmic shifts, overlapping melodies, and folk elements.
His third album (read about!) – which is more popular than previous two (listen to!) – was influenced by Kirkegaard and William Blake, Townes van Zandt and Blaze Foley, Harry Nilsson and Syd Barret, and more. Sycamore, from his 1st album

from the album Abisso
“The anarcho-punk (The Ex, Dog Faced Hermans, Rhythm Activism) made an important impact on us, but we don’t belong any movements. Although our lifestyle is perfect anarchism. We haven’t workplace, travelling around the world, working together with people who have values identical with ours, doing own label, etc. We can try to live by our own ideas, it requires much discipline, I think it’s an important trick of the anarchism.”

The founder of notorious British alternative punk band Country Teasers (which was somewhere between The Fall and Fat White Family), Ben Waller says about the beginning of his musical carrier: “I envied the guys in the school band. They didn’t invite me to join, so I formed my own band. I wanted to play the Cure’s guitar melodies, so that’s how I learnt, playing along. I learnt by ear. I had learnt piano to Grade 3, which I failed; I learnt sax for a year or two at school too. Fucking hated it. But I could play the solo at the end of Pink Floyd’s ‘Two Suns in the Sunset’, the tragic climax of The Final Cut.” * His next cut under his pseudonym The Rebel
„KROT” LP on Monofonus Press (US). It is just like the Country Teasers with minimal orchestration and experimental country songs. It was recorded in Texas. On the label’s site you can listen to the whole album for a limited time!

About Takako Minekawa, her brand new album with Dustin Wong,
and a short interview

The Dale Cooper Quartet is a trio, of course. But they never play as a three piece band naturally, because there’re The Dictaphones. The band originally formed as a quartet for an improvisation night in Brest (France) in 2002 in order to play a strange mix of Angelo Badalamenti and the German slow-core-jazz band, Bohren & Der Club of Gore style music. Mysterious, dark, smoky, jazz, exactly like a film by David Lynch. While they’re also under influence of Bretagne’s weather, landscape and people, of course.
from their first album „Paroles de Navarre” (2006).
It’s re-released by Denovali Records (Germany)
Denovali Swingfest, Oct 2-5, Essen with Frederico Albanaese (I), The Haxan Cloak (UK), Ensemble Economique (US), Pan & Me (F), Bohren und der Club of Gore (Ger), Never Sol (Cz), Thees Silver Mt. Zion Memorial Orchestra (Can), Ben Frost (Aus), The Samuel Jackson 5 (Nor) and more.
The program of Denovali Records varies from sometimes improvised darker experimental sounds, ambient, drone, indie and electronica to darkjazz, jazz or piano and string driven modern compositions.

There’s a book by Judy Blume: Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret. It’s „about a girl in sixth grade who grew up without a religious affiliation. Margaret’s mother is Christian and her father is Jewish, and the novel explores her quest for a single religion. Margaret also confronts many other pre-teen female issues, such as buying her first bra, having her first period, coping with belted sanitary napkins (changed to adhesive sanitary pads for recent editions of the book), jealousy towards another girl who has developed a womanly figure earlier than other girls, liking boys, and whether to voice her opinion if it differs from those of her friends.”
About these problems with really various style music from pop to punk by all-star girl group of Canberra, Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret. And surprisingly they’re so good than there we’re sold out shows only. Yes, were. The final show was on 15 Aug.

The Cleveland based Prostitutes are „Primitive Technology Specialists” and have experimental psych/prog rock background. And they are James Donadio himself. His roots have gone back to the 90s when he played on bass in Speaker/Cranker together with members of Pere Ubu, Guided by Voice and other less known local bands. What they did came mostly from bands like Can, Amon Duul and Neu. The Flat Can Co was his next and similar style band. Now he makes noisy minimal analog techno with same attitude. His label‘s slogan is „Primitive Technology Specialists”
