Lo-fi Lou Reed

After departure of Nico, Warhol and John Cale Lou Reed quit The Velvet Underground in August of 1970. He moved back to the parents and worked his father’s tax accounting firm as a typist. His mates were the pittance, the mental breakdown and the solitude. He recorded a demo at lowest point of his life in fall and winter of 1970. There are some songs which were originally recorded to the Velvet Underground’s “lost album” and early versions of Lou Reed’s songs. You can download it.

Easy English style punk from Texan Swell Maps and Country Teasers fans. Yes sir, it’s almost perfect. There are some really good songs, but the album is too long, it becomes bore to the end.

I Want Candy – Acts of a Metamorphosis

The original was played by The Strangeloves in 1965. This was a fictional band created by a producer group: Feldman, Goldstein, Gottehrer. The members played significant roles in the careers of War, Blood Sweat & Tears, Richard Hell, Blondie, Fleshtones, Circle Jerks, Sly & The Family Stone, etc. Gottehrer produced the Dum Dum Girls’ debut full-length album and continues producing them to this day.

Then comes the famous cover by Bow Wow Wow from 1982. The band was created by Malcolm McLaren after the Sex Pistols. The third one is from the Megapuss, a joke band with Devendra Banhart and Fabrizio Moretti (The Strokes) among others. They have written own peculiar lyrics in 2008. And now here is an up to date version by the experimental electronic duo, Matmos: I Want Snowden

The track is free! Just click the download.

No punk! No rock!

asthmatickitty

Only easy country & pop & some strange melodies on the Asthmatic Kitty‘s free summer sampler. There are some good songs. For example the most hardest one:

Free Country from the Big Prairie of London

Influences are wide ranging. From a song writing perspective, Phil’s primary influences are the alt-country of Wilco, the surrealist melancholia of Sparklehorse and experimental rock of Califone, though more than a hint of Captain Beefheart’s magisterial influence can be detected in the lyrics and song titles. Ian brings bluegrass chops and punk sensibilities in equal measure, whilst Barney’s slide and fingerstyle guitar reveal a love of the pre-war splendor of Mississippi John Hurt and Blind Willie McTell.

6s & 12s

nwais an initiative designed to promote and support new eclectic and experimental Australian music. One of their projects is a free compilation series. The latest explores the guitar in all its varied forms and nuances. six, twelve, and four string guitars are plucked, scraped, strummed, treated and picked to within an inch of tangible existence, before regularly being brought back into the realm of the recognizable.
