Primitive Calculators were always outsiders in Melbourne’s punk scene

pc2

Synth punk Primitive Calculators have started in 1978 in same place and same time than the Birthday Party. After a single they relocated to London, in same time than the Birthday Party, and promptly broke up in 1980. But there was a post-split-up single under the name of  Zye Ye Ye in England in 1981. The first album was released in 1980. And there was a film Dogs in Space in 1986, in it they play Pumping Ugly Muscle. Also a single was released. Then they have reformed in 2009 at the request of Nick Cave for the first All Tommorrow’s Pary in Australia. Second album The World Is Fucked was released in 2013. And now here is a new single by Emotional Response (US, Flagstaff, Arizona).

like Tit Wrench or a punk Ministry or Screamers

The band intends to record a psychedelic-space-folk album about taking hallucinogenic drugs.

Also from Emotinal Respone LA punk Shark Toys / Florida indie punk UV-TV split 7″

Emotional Response was formed from 555 and Red Square Records after two owners married.

Night People Now

daisychains

NP221 Daisy Chains „Above Board” C26 (full album stream here)

Daisy Chains is a very responsive Minneapolis trio. Minimalist fuck you pay me post punk leanings intersect slow country drawl and rock and roll swagger in interesting ways to create something unique that also nods to greats such as Dead Moon, Beat Happening, and Opal.

NP223 Stefan Christensen „Isreal (Its More of the Same)” C32 (full  album here)

Stefan Christensen was the lead man in long running New Haven Connecticut arty DIY punk outfit the Estrogen Highs (e.g. Trouble in Mind, Telephone Explosion, Dead Beat or Southpaw Records), and hc-punk band Iron Hand.

He has walked away to a more abstracted discordant and subtle area of the post punk. Kiwi influences such as This Kind of Punishment, the Dead C, Alastair Galbraith and the Xpressway label sound stick out along with the Mike Rep Ohio scene of weirdo rock and the general goodness of early UK DIY as prime vantage points.

He is running C/Site Recordings. Now they have launched a store with releases available from Estrogen Highs, Stefan Christensen, Pieces of Fruit, Worn Leather, Mountain Movers, Medication, Phemale, and Jon Eriksen. First batch of cassette releases coming in the spring, which will include releases from Stefan Christensen, Medication, and more.

Jonnie Common’s Remixes

A message from the amazing Scottish indie electronic artist Jonnie Common

jonniecommonegg

– Album number 2 is done and dusted but it’s taking a while to move out. Mainly so people don’t think I’ve gone and died, I’ve collected the majority of the remixes I did between 2009 and 2013 into a set. I’ve put it up on my bandcamp as Name Your Price in case people already have a lot of the tracks from their respective original releases.

From New Records

ggtattoos

A cult band in garage punk underground: LiveFastDie. Forward on GG Allin’s way

from Hit Stains LP which is a compilation from their singles on Almost Ready Records. First 100 on shit colored wax.

The band is named after a tattoo of GG Allin, and one of them is same town as GG — Littleton, New Hampshire. „I heard his music for the first time when I was 11, before I heard any other punk music. Living in Littleton, there’s always some older kid who’s proud of being from the same town as GG. I actually picked up his step-dad while he was hitch-hiking once. He tried to convince me to get an eight ball with him.” Eight ball: a quantity of cocaine or crystal that weighs an eighth of an ounce, which is equivalent to 3.5 grams.

*

There was a very British-style twee pop band in America, the Aberdeen. The band It formed in 1993 and signed to the seminal English label Sarah Records, where they were the only not British act. The label closed in 1995, the band broke-up in same year. In the recent times some members have started a new project, The Luxembourg Signals. First single before the album on Shelflife Records

Songs For Walter

Shower Scene with Lilacs and Champagne

Lilacs & Champagne is an alternative project of Emil Amos (drums) and Alex Hall (guitar) from Grails which plays instrumental cinematic music. They have started a fantasy record series Midnight Features. Inspired by the Marvel comics series What if? These were alternative stories of well-known super heroes of Marvel. In musical equivalents of these the band places himself into various musical eras. The first chapter, the Shower Scene takes place in the 70s, and was inspired by the background music of TV shows, crimes, dramas, romantics and more.

Shower Scene + Maple St

From New Records

„Life is funny when there’s no rules.”
