The Cleveland based Prostitutes are „Primitive Technology Specialists” and have experimental psych/prog rock background. And they are James Donadio himself. His roots have gone back to the 90s when he played on bass in Speaker/Cranker together with members of Pere Ubu, Guided by Voice and other less known local bands. What they did came mostly from bands like Can, Amon Duul and Neu. The Flat Can Co was his next and similar style band. Now he makes noisy minimal analog techno with same attitude. His label‘s slogan is „Primitive Technology Specialists”

The Russians have a predilection for airliner shooting

1940. A Junkers Ju 52 en route from Tallinn (Estonia) to Helsinki (Finland) was shot down by two Soviet bombers over the Gulf of Finland during peacetime; all 9 aboard died.

1962. A domestic flight of Russian airlines company Aeroflot was accidentally shot down by a surface-to-air missile which had gone astray during an air defence exercise. 84 people died.

1978. A Boeing 707 of Korean Air Lines was shot down by Soviet fighter planes; the plane did crash-lands near the Soviet Union’s border with Finland; two of the 109 people on board were killed, the rest were subsequently released.

1983. Korean Air Lines Flight 007, a Boeing 747 was shot down by Soviet fighter planes near Sakhalin and Moneron Island after straying into Soviet airspace; all 269 people on board were killed.

„Solo Paradise” MOLLY NILSSON‘s musical reports from Buenos Aires. Bittersweet heart beats, sunny economic breaks, romantic cats and plane crash. The Latin mood didn’t touch very much her Scandinavian attitude. She’s one of the most interesting performers in the synth pop underground.

spacelady

At the time, back in the early seventies the Vietnam war was still raging, Susan Dietrich and her husband Joel and their tiny daughter were political exiles living like refugees in the States, terrified that Joel would be imprisoned for having resisted the draft. For nine years they had subsisted on spare change and meager sales of their artwork on the streets. Finding a dilapidated, old accordion in a junk store was the major cause in turning her life around.  And „the Space Lady began her odyssey on the streets of San Francisco in the late 70s, playing an accordion and dressed flamboyantly, transmitting messages of peace and harmony. Following the theft of her accordion, she invested in a then-new Casio keyboard…” and plays minimal prog lo-fi space pop. Two songs of her early street sets:

Terror Bird

The Canadian Nikki Nevver has been making music under Terror Bird moniker for about nine years ago. In the beginning she was alone, but after three years a live band formed around her. In the first line up were a band mate from the synthpunk Modern Creatures (where she played bass) and the drummer of the punk Nu Sensae (Point of interest: he is the drummer and one song co-writer on the Hairdresser Blues album by Hunx And His Punx in 2012.) All the same Terror Bird is a new wave synth pop project, because Nikki Nevver has influenced by minimal wave, dark wave, and 80’s goth, for example: New Order, Depeche Mode, Alphaville, OMD, Human League, Ultravox, Gary Numan etc. The actual line up: NN – electronic drums and vocal, Liane – cello, Jen – synth.
