After becoming one of the flagship bands of Hungarian independent music with their 2013 LP, derTANZ is now back with a new self-released album.

It’s been almost a year since the release of ‘Kaktusz’ and the band seems to be ready for action and as you can guess, it is  once again a ruthless, loud and twisted attack on human senses.

VATTA is no principal shift from the older songs – especially if we ignore the fact that the minimalist ‘free punk’ music of derTANZ is not at all based on songs (in a traditional 4/4 sense, of course).  This album is more like a post-apocalyptic audio book  for the last handful of  survivors (?) on Earth. The 30 minute-flow is basically one indivisible musical piece recorded in their countryside rehearsal space with the help of András Weil.

The trio claims that they only had a couple of songs but no plans or directions in advance, they have just spread out an imaginary butterfly net to see what they can catch – and as Gábor puts it ‘we have caught bats, bees and flies as well‘.

Those who are already familiar with the music of derTANZ  will probably be least surprised (but most satisfied instead) that the new album is again attempting to evoke the atmosphere of their insane live performances (just like on Kaktusz) with a loose combination of free flowing sequences, lots of tense feedback noise and maniac loop sounds.

And how about some words of advice from the band before listening?

‘Listen to it as loud as possible’– Gábor says.

They self-released only one single before they transformed into a gospel rock band in 1977, but later they turned into reggae. The Death stayed fully unknown until 2009. Aussie big city folk in electro-acoustic junk pop style, spiced with ambient garbage. Maybe the instruments and the tunes are from a dump or the Moon, where is „A place wherein is wonderfully stored / Whatever on our earth below we lose. / Collected there are all things whatsoe’er, / Lost through time, chance, or our own folly, here.”* The sound is like as if it would come straight from a trashcan. Perfect.

Xiu Xiu is a famous experimental band. Many times on many site I red that it’s very good and very artistic, so I tried to make friends with their music, but it didn’t work. „Interesting” – thought about the previous Nina Simone cover album, but I will never listen to it again. Thanks, but there’re the originals. I have listened to their new album many times. Electronic noise, melancholic melodies, goth style lamentation, screams and cries. That’s all and not more. Too good and too artistic for me.

The London Dirthole Company started as a two piece project in London in 2002 by Kirsten Reynolds and Ashley Davies as simple Dirthole. Within weeks this duo had become a 10-piece garage punk band: 4 stand-up drummers, 4 guitarists, bassist and singer. They have written as influence: The Fall, Velvet Underground and The Monks. Their music also reminds me of Dog Faced Hermans and The Ex.
