The most simple phrase is: indie pop, but French, because I like it better

Danceable noisy electronic beats by Martial Canterel, aka Sean McBride, who is one half of synth-pop duo Xeno & Oaklander. His new album bears very strange title: „Gyors, Lassú”. For the majority of the Universe: it’s in Hungarian; pronunc: diorsh, lushew; means: quick, slow. Sean is a New Yorker, he also loves our hometown, and now living in a small town in Campania, Teano. The album is about these cities, and the wanderings between these. Funny that sometimes he writes in Hungarian on his fb page.
On the cover there is a figure from the so-called Hungarian deck of card: Stüszi vadász (Stüssi hunter), otherwise Tökfilkó, which means Blockhead in the vernacular. Strange fact that on the cards the depicted characters and scenes are taken from Friedrich Schiller’s William Tell. The Swiss figures substitute for Hungarian historical heroes and scenes, because at the time of birth of card (around 1835), Hungary was one province of the Hapsburg Empire, and there was hard censorship.

I can’t find their Euro tour dates nowhere on the net, so here are:
Chris Imler was one driver of German satiric electronic duo Driver & Driver. He mix traditional one-man band guitar’n’drums sound with electronic music and some special instruments. „I Used To Too” comes D.A.F., Urban Junior and Quintron to my mind. His moustache is a broad hint at Boris Blank (Yello)
Nervös album on Staatsakt Records (Germany)
Slim Twig is a Canadian film director who also makes music (like David Lynch, or John Carpenter ). It’s meaningful for his pop musical orientation that he made some split releases with US Girls, Dirty Beaches and Ela Orleans.
His latest album will be re-issued soon by DFA. „A Hound At The Hem” is a concept album, thematically and musically it based on Serge Gainsbourg’s Melody Nelson. Significant disparity that the story of Melody Nelson was the reality of the two main characters’ life. That is so good owing to this specially reason. And because of Gainsbourg’s genius, of course. So good…it’s gem in his amazing life-work. Naturally „A Hound At The Hem” is far from it, but perhaps non-irrespective of it, this is the best work of Slim Twig.

The June Brides return with new EP. English pop legends The June Brides are back with their second single since re-forming back in 2011. The June Brides are true indie innovators, whose classic 80s records influenced everyone from The Smith/Morrissey to The Wedding Present and Belle & Sebastian. Smart, punk-influenced pop is the order of the day, bristling with jangly guitars, marvelous melodies and top-notch song-writing. Listen to Being There. Order.
Terry Malts have been exploring the murky area where hope meets disgust, an area populated with anger, hatred, exhaustion, delusion, seclusion, consumption, life, death, breathing, eating and a host of other conflicting and confusing ideas. Their records to date have a been a refreshing blast of catchy punk, pop-influenced but also chaotic, noisy, shredding. The Insides EP might be their most „pop” record yet, but don’t let that make you believe that they’ve given up on the blazing, verge-of-feedback guitars or pummeling rhythms. Listen to Let You In. Order.
The Aislers Set reissue their back catalog. Slumberland Records and Suicide Squeeze Records re-release all three albums from seminal indie-pop band The Aislers Set. The albums have been re-mastered. GINO & THE GOONS – SHAKE IT (LP)
Gino and the Goons are the most unlikely band to have gotten any attention in the current shitpool of rock’n’roll posecrap. This is the album you wanted to be budget rock. This is the album you wanted to be dumb as fuck. This is the album that fails on both levels. This is the album that proves that Ramones worship doesn’t have to be predictable or generic. This is the album that proves that rock’N’roll doesn’t have a fashion, and that musical style rules supreme. PLAY LOUD cuz, cause you’re not likely to get this action for many years to come. R.I.P. Joey, Dee Dee, Johnny and Tommy! Preview on Bandcamp and order
SICK THOUGHTS – Fat Kid (10″ EP)
Have you ever been to Hanover, PA? I’ve spent time there, and It’s WEIRD. Hanover is lousy with mongoloids /Juggalos and slack jawed farm people. Drew Owen, otherwise known as SICK THOUGHTS, was born there, and through the benevolent seer abilities of his dad was fortunate enough to escape to Baltimore, MD, currently ranked in the top 30 most dangerous cities in the USA. 17 years old Drew Owen has vinyl releases on labels from Italy (Goodbye Boozy), Sweden (Ken Rock), Zaxxon (Canada), and a few American imprints, including an upcoming single on Goner Records. Sick Thoughts channels GG and the Jabbers and Japanese noise with heavy negatory spirit on each track – a sonically screwed and
puberty drenched hatful of hateful punk rock sputum. Preview on Bandcamp and order

The debut album from Steve Ignorant‘s new project Slice of Life, it’s very different from what you’d associate him with, but it’s a mighty fine album.
On the way home from the Australian & New Zealand Last Supper Tour in 2011; Carol, Pete and Steve Ignorant found themselves stranded due to the Chile ash cloud. During the long night gazing at the lights of Sydney reflecting on life while drinking beers, Slice Of Life was born. A far cry from the aggression of Crass maybe, with the songs in an acoustic setting of: piano, acoustic guitar and upright bass, Impossible to categorise, Slice Of Life’s first album is up-front and soul-baringly personal. It’s a mixture of songs and spoken word. Order

One from our saint rock’n’roll madman: Timmy Vulgar from Human Eye. Now with his Organism. Like some Butthole Surfers
Timmy’s Organism – „Singles & Unreleased Tracks” 2xLP on Hozac Records (US)

Deerhoof is a base, a point of comparison. I have gathered some „Deerhoof-like”, „Deerhoofesque” or „Deerhoof positive” artists from RNR666
Gentle Friendly – „It’s noisy, with keyboards, you wouldn’t like it.” Very playful experimental pop. Maybe like the early Animal Collective. Or Deerhoof.
Roze & The Rice Cakes – Funny, playful, jazzy. It brings the Deerhoof to my mind. On other sites this is called art rock.
Blanche Blanche Blanche – Experimental pop like Zappa or Deerhoof or something similar.
Joy As A Toy – They mention Talking Heads, Stereolab, Mr. Bungle and Deerhoof like same style music. Playful eclectic progressive pop.
Binidu – They’re high above the indie rock category. His music comes to my mind the Deerhoof and the French band is comparable to them. Fresh and playful music.
Papeye – Indie hard rock from France. The sound is similar to Deerhoof (I love) and Don Caballero (I don’t like).
Orval Carlos Sibelius – French multi-instrumentalist, who make music in really various styles from abstract electroinc dance to psych folk pop. His music often comes the world of Deerhoof in my mind.
Their 13th album La Isla Bonita will be released on 4 November by Polyvinyl Records (US). It was recorded live, DIY style, during „a weeklong sleepover arguing over whether to try and sound like Joan Jett or Janet Jackson
Deerhoof formed as a drum’n’bass duo in San Francisco in 1994. In 1995 Satomi Matsuzaki joined them as a singer within a week of arriving in the United States from Japan without any band experience, and went on tour only a week later… Later she would be the bass player too. And a guitar player is there too, not of course. If you want more music click
Shilpa Ray is an Indian American singer-songwriter. She got Indian classical music education, and learnt to play harmonium and piano. In her childhood it had been forbidden her to listen to pop music. Her first pop experience was Oliver Stone’s film The Doors. Then she has taken to music of Velvet Underground, Cramps, Stooges and Joy Division. After her bands „Beat The Devil” and „Shilpa Ray and Her Happy Hookers” were split, she toured with Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds as a backup singer and supporting act. Then she recorded a version of Pirate Jenny featuring Nick Cave and Warren Ellis for compilation album „Son of Rogue Gallery: Pirate Ballads, Sea Songs & Chanteys.” (It was co-produced by Butthole Surfers’ Gibby Haynes’ bandmate in the band „P”, Johnny Depp.) Her latest EP It’s All Self Fellatio was released by Nick Cave’s own label in 2013.

It’s back home that Shilpa Ray closed her 6 weeks US tour. And the gig was as stunning as the character herself. She plays harmonium (a kind of beautiful piano/accordeon instrument) that fits perfectly with her style. Wavy hair and open mouth, her cat voice hiss and miaows through the sound system sitting in front of me and I let my body speak with the alive machine.
Shilpa, I’d like to say that you’re a sort of hero. You possessed your public by spreading your healthy, angry, frustrated feeling of shame. Your natural talent is an inspiration to all the unloved ones. So what else do we need? You transform your own emotions into a real touchable and touching music. The tribality of it all, sustained by heavy beats proves that you can deal with being rough and powerful. The female fans say it surely, you inspire and transpire feminity.

John, the professional pedal steel guitar/keyboard player melts with her. He says, when playing he tries to inverse the melody making his music complementary to other’s, and that’s the magic trick of being a professional artist. This 6 weeks tour has been tough for the band, but finishing it at home just makes it seem all so smooth. Indeed, John lost himself on stage and that’s how he knows it’s been a good night!
Oooo crap, Shilpa has to fly away and there are so many things I will never know about the artist, though, after having heard what I heard I ‘ll always remember her melodic inside.
People! Do yourself a pleasurable favor and listen to It’s all self fellatio, you’ll see, it’s all so goooood.
