Californian NO BABIES‘ new album SOMEONE TO WATCH OVER ME on English label UPSET THE RHYTHM is such as if Scottish anarchopunk band Dog Faced Hermans and Japanese experimental chaos hardcore band Melt-Banana would have been made an album together.

5. SARAH SHOOK was born in Rochester, New York. She was homeschooled and grew up in a fundamentalist Christian family where music was restricted. In high school, she taught herself acoustic guitar. Inspired by artists such as the Sex Pistols, Elliott Smith and Hank Williams she started her first country band, Sarah Shook and the Devil in 2010. But now here is her second album with THE DISARMERS on Chicago BLOODSHOT RECORDS.

The album YEARS is about finding a way. A way through exhaustion, depression, betrayal, hangover after hangover, upper after downer after upper, fight after never-ending fight. It’s about picking yourself up and dusting yourself off after years of being trampled and beaten down, jutting your chin out, head high after they’ve done their worst, and shouting: Fuck you! I do want I want!

ventre3

Hi there, here’s the 8th historical KILLBONOCLUB

the monthly music below the line:

great artists, independent labels, brand new records

The drawings from graphic artist Luca Retraite who has a bunch of punk band like Ventre de Biche in this show.

I have got the DARLENE SHRUGG debut album from the English label UPSET THE RHYTHM with the remark that it will certainly like to me. I thought of course when I saw that American art pop artist Meg Remy – aka U.S.Girls – makes music together again her husband the Canadian art rock artist Slim Twig,  and I like their music very much. And Toronto based synth pop duo Ice Cream also involved in the project DARLENE SHRUGG which started as a duo of long time collaborators Slim Twig and Simone TB of Fake Palms and more. I added these info and tried to imagine their music before listening, and I was totally surprised

SAPIN is an easy French country garage rock band, and this love song In My Head from the album DARK IS THE NIGHT…ON IS THE PARTY is the indie pop hit song of the month. It is released on HOWLIN’ BANANA and BEAST RECORDS (Both F).

3 ——

A fucking strong debut album from L.A. punk trio THE SIDE EYES. SO SICK is released on IN THE RED RECORDS (US). Anyway lead singer Astrid McDonald is the  daughter of Go-Go’s guitarist-songwriter Charlotte Caffey and Redd Kross singer-guitarist Jeff McDonald. The last song on the album is a cover song, was written by Astrid’s mother when she was in the late-70s L.A. punk trio The Eyes.

4 ——

In the late autumn of 2013 in Gothenburg, Sweden, the Baron called Philippe Jean-Piere Dominique Sainz met a beautiful creature, Linda Felicia Marie Rydelius, and they fell in love. Since then they created dark and mystical music together as BARONEN & SATAN. Their debut album SATAN IS A LADY will be released on 31st Oct on DIRTY WATER RECORDS USA. It’s sounds like an upside down cross between the Cramps and Bauhaus with Siouxsie casting spells through a fender vibrosonic amp!

5 ——

PERE UBUs new album 20 YEARS IN A MONTANA MISSILE SILO contains nasty little punk songs and as paradoxical as ever. Released on CHERRY RED (UK)

6 ——

Gradual metamorphosis from punk aesthetics to a truly cosmic country by GUN OUTFIT (US). The new album OUT OF RAGE on PARADISE OF BACHELORS RECORDS (US) on 10th Nov. It is debating the denouement of the decaying American dream.

7 ——

Some interesting statistics by Finnish grindcore band DEATH TOLL 80K on the album STEP DOWN on SVART RECORDS (SF)

8 ——

WILD BILLY still CHILDISH. Subjects on the new album ‘brand new cage‘ include lost landmarks of ’70s Chatham, the true revolution of punk, spirituality, lost loves and the sidelining of Brian Jones from The Rolling Stones. Released on DAMAGED GOODS RECORDS (UK)

9 ——

Post Washington DC hc-punk by THE EFFECTS. Debut album EYES TO THE LIGHTS on DISCHORD RECORDS (US). „Post” means not really hc and punk, but hc-punk influenced rock music, a lil bit seems progressive, but fine.

‘Why bother moving to a more expensive city to be unemployed when you can do that in Detroit’  said Joe Casey the singer of PROTOMARTYR who write the lyrics of resignation for the sound of abandoned buildings in the manner of Gang of Four, The Fall, and sometimes Joy Division. New album RELATIVES IN DESCENT on Domino Recordings(UK)

But the city „is really changing. If you had walked here from where you’re staying five years ago, there is a good chance that you would have been murdered.”

The Mallissimal Movement born in the 50’s in St-Petersburg by self-taught Russian musicians who took an interest in old Siberian sacred rituals. The French CERCLE DES MALLISSIMALISTES is devoted to the research, preservation and diffusion of Mallissimal Music. Recently they recorded a work of an Italian far-leftist terrorist and composer Faustina M. Todesco who left the Music School of Milan before graduating to join The Red Brigades. It formed in 1970 and sought to create a „revolutionary” state through armed struggle. They attained notoriety in the 1970s and early 80s with their violent attempts to destabilise Italy by acts of sabotage, bank robberies and kidnappings. Their most infamous act was kidnapping and murdering ex-PM Aldo Moro in 1975. But Faustina M. Todesco quit from the organization in 1974 and fled the western world and left activism for mysticism. Later she killed herself in the river Seine. But I don’t believe these things. I think these are just the game of the fantasy, but I like them. And as always in the Mallissimal Movement, the matter is electro-acoustic trance.

LE CERCLE DES MALLISSIMALISTES: F.M. TODESCO – I TRE ANGOLI DEL CONTINENTE. Album on KYTHIBONG/ LES POTAGERS NATURES / MON CUL C’EST DU TOFU / LA REPUBLIQUE DES GRANGES RECORDS (All F)

Hey Butt What The Fuck with Honkies

honkies

This South-London honky-tonk band was able disturbed me
with messages through various channels within a very short time
about their first single, called Entitled to Nothing

For example they wrote that „a blend of South-London scuzz incorporating elements country, electronic, post-punk and lo-fi. File next to bands such as Goat Girl, Meatraffle, Warmduscher, peeping Drexels and the Rebel”, but also Country Teasers. „Using vintage drum machines, synthesizers, guitars, bass and male/female vocals.” And thye are really just „like a drunken boat.” With Keel Her in the title song. She nowadays also appeared in other bands as Bin Bags, Administrators and maybe more.

But now I ask Jim from Honkies

– Hey! What is your temper?

– My temper is dependent on two things: bullishly high crypto-currency share prices and Hank Williams cover requests.

– Anyway what things annoy you in the weekdays?

– Lesser Honkies gigs, lesser Honkies activity.

Next gig on 20 July at the Bible Club in London

Anyway the 4th commandment of crypto currency trading: Don’t Panic.

CATALOGUE is a french band from Marseille.

The post punk trio was born in 2012 and its music is based on hyptonic beats and razor sharp guitars…

The beatbox is always set at a minimum of 160 BPM, and tracks, which follow each other at a frenetic pace, are sung or whispered by a female voice with a French accent…

Various sonic influences can be heard in Catalogue but mostly from post punk, garage, pop and noise bands:

Speedy Wunderground is a very special little label in London. It was formed in early 2013 by the producer Dan Carey. He worked together with Franz Ferdinand, Bat For Lashes, TOY, Django Django, Emiliana Torrini, The Kills, Kylie Minogue, Tame Impala among others.
The Speedy Wunderground works under strict rules: Dan will produce all releases. All records will be recorded at Dan’s studio. Recording of all records will be done in one day and finish before midnight. Mixing will be done the day following the recording, also in one day only. There will be no lunch break during these days. The core of each song will be a live take recorded in the dark with smoke and lazers and somewhere on each record the Swarmatron (a hand-built analogue synthesiser) will make an appearance. The recordings will appear in limited runs of 250 7”s.

bangbang

Natalie Bang Bang is a Riot Grrrl. She said it. And made mention of Serge Gainsbourg, David Bowie, Madonna, A$AP Rocky and David Byrne as her top musicians. And picked Loser by Beck as her national anthem. But nevertheless she is just a teen spice girl in soft Madonna style. Maybe this post punk disco track is her first really good song

7″ will be released on 3rd Nov by Speedy Wunderground

Dadaist Savage Garden of London

Two London based bands
an all female post punk noise rock band with French singer and Turkish bassist:
Savages (Matador Records) &
an all Japanese psychedelic rock band, similar to another Japanese band, Boris:
Bo Ningen
are in a special collaboration

bonsavages

London 2012. Savages are recording the debut album. In the middle of an intense three weeks, they set out one evening to see the band Bo Ningen. A few days later producer Johnny Hostile begins to muse over the possibility of two bands playing in the same space at the same time.  Concurrently Gemma Thopson of Savages is reading about the performances at the Cabaret Voltaire.

“Zurich in 1916 and Hugo Ball is instrumental in creating the Cabaret Voltaire – a club which will become central to the performances of the Dada movement, during which the artists would experiment with forms of sound poetry and simultaneous poetry. A movement created through the horror of World War One, it attempts to understand how society has reached such an illogical decision. Through simultaneous poetry begins the attempt to delve into chaos and maelstrom, to find the voice of the individual struggling to be heard. We decide to approach Bo Ningen with the idea of collaborating on a Sonic Simultaneous Poem.”

The idea begins to take shape in early 2013, they prepare for both bands to rehearse together in a studio with a loose composition based around five chapters. As the musicians of both bands consider how to apply themselves with their instruments to each chapter – revolving, colliding and intertwining with words sang in Japanese, French and English. They also envisage the physical space in which to perform.

„We imagine a stage in a large u-shape to contain as much of the audience as possible in the centre. The two drummers next to each other at the ‘bottom’ of the u, then leading around symmetrically (facing each other): guitarists, bassists and singers at the tips of the u-shape. Bo Ningen have a guitar extra, so we hang one from the ceiling to hit as you would a gong. Eventually we fix a date and a space for what we believe is a one-off performance that we name „Words To The Blind.” It was performed at The Red Gallery, London on May 29th 2013. The 37-minutes long track will be released on November 17th by Stolen Recordings (UK) and Pop Noire Records (France).

Snippets from the performance

They will do it again together this on 19 November at the Oval Space, London.
Tickets have been sold out.

Abridged version of John Schooley’s legend

„Details of the early life of John Schooley are sketchy. Various sources place his birth either in Columbus, Ohio or Vancouver, British Columbia. We do know that his family moved to the rural enclave of Niangua, Missouri when he was still quite young. His parents were sharecroppers, barely scratching out a living from the rocky soil of the Ozark Mountains. The youngest of eight or possibly nine siblings, John Schooley did not take to farming, or, apparently, work of any kind. He could be found, often as not, shirking his chores to hunch over his guitar. He would stomp his foot on a board or on the front porch, frequently scaring the cows.  The family Victrola was stocked with any 78″s that could be found, mostly by Jimmie Rodgers, Blind Lemon Jefferson, Doctor Ross, and Don Van Vliet. Most evenings the family tuned to radio station KWTO out of Springfield, to hear the “Carter Sisters and Mother Maybelle with Chet Atkins and his Famous Guitar” perform as part of the syndicated “RadiOzark” network.

School was never to his liking and Schooley quit after graduating the fifth grade. Chafing at the dreary small town life of Niangua, Schooley left never to return. He rambled north to Columbia, Missouri. First trying to put together a hot-jazz combo along the lines of the then-popular Django Reinhart, but he was unable to find suitable musicians. Then, billing himself as “John Schooley and His One Man Band”, he rigged up a kick drum and hi-hat and began performing at “house frolics” and on the sidewalk in front of local record store Whizz Records. He met with minimal success. He was frequently chased away by the proprietor with a broom shortly after setting up. Being unwilling (or perhaps unable) to learn pop hits of the day, Schooley tried to force his listeners to dance to his own frequently atonal blend of blues and country, again with minimal success.

schooley

The musical scene in Columbia was so stagnant that when it was announced that bluegrass stars The Oblivians were coming to town, Schooley was able to secure the opening slot even though he had no band together at the time.” He founded the guitar, drum, and vocal trio The Revelators. Surprising success. „When the record, titled “We Told You Not To Cross Us” was released it caused a sensation in at least three Missouri counties and parts of Arkansas and Illinois. The Revelators were immediately rushed off to a whirlwind tour of Europe, which included performances for the as-yet not-dead Princess Diana and Archduke Ferdinand.”

After the break-up he went to Texas „and took whatever work he could find, from oil roughneck to hotel elevator operator. He eventually started another musical combo, the Hard Feelings” while he continued performing as one man band. He added harmonica, snare drum, and washboard to his kick and hi-hat apparatus and recorded some songs.  „Voodoo Rhythm recently uncovered the tapes of these songs, long presumed lost, in an oil drum outside of Lockhart, Texas.” Album preview

The Family Fodder is among the funniest British bands ever. Since the mid-70s they have been playing really indie pop music, but literally! It’s independent from everything. So the best. Now here is a vinyl-only collection of 11 love songs, that have never before been released on vinyl. Alig Fodder says about it: „We collected all the love songs together without all the annoying instrumentals, dubs and solos.”

What Do You Think About Turkish New Wave?

Have you any idea of it?
Please let me introduce Kirik Cizgi to you.
It’s a keyboard-bass-drums trio with post punk inspired irrational melodic structures.
In Koppány’s view: „They are a bit like cooler No Wave bands like Bush Tetras or Talking Heads. But when I hear them I always have Czech bands in my mind,
like Psí Vojaci, Uz Jsme Doma, or sometimes the Russian N.O.M. (the early).
But Csikar had right when he said, ‘the Turkish Dragibus’, which is true for a few songs.”

Carsick Cars are among the leading alternative Chinese rock bands. They describe themselves as noise rock band, but the measure of noise shows low degree. (Perhaps the Chinese notion about noise differs from the Western conception.) Soft Sonic Youth-like, Velvet Underground influenced indie rock with Chinese motifs on a surprisingly good album which was co-produced by Hamish Kilgoure from The Clean! (Influential New Zealander indie rock band.)

„3” album via Maybe Mars (China) and Tenzenmen (Australia)

Their side projects: 1. White+. Kraut-like electronic duo. First CD was produced by Blixa Bargeld (Einstürzende Neubauten, Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds).
2. One of my fav Chinese bands: Snapline. Post punk trio. Debut album was produced and released by Martin Atkins (drummer of PIL, Pigface and many more).
