Gil Scott-Heron (1949-2011) was an Afro-American poet and musician. He made his music in jazz, funk and soul, and exerted huge influence on hip-hop with his spoken words. On his first album (1970, produced by Bob Thile) he named as influences Richie Havens (singer/songwriter, the opening act in Woodstock), John Coltrane (one of the greatest jazz saxists), Otis Redding (soul and blues singer/songwriter), Jose Feliciano (Puerto Rican guitar virtuoso), Billie Holiday, Nina Simone (jazz singers) from musicians. From activists: Langston Hughes (poet, writer, human rights activist), Malcolm X (while was imprisonment owing to lacreny concverted to Islam, became black superiority activist, then would be human rights activist) and Huey Newton (was a controversial person, co-founded the Afro-American left-wing organization, Black Panther Party, he killed a 17 years old girl becuse he very didn’t like if somebody called him by his nickname „baby”, the eyewitness changed her testimony after some Black Panther members tried to kill her, a man who known too many things about this case would be buried alive in the desert.  He was shot to death by a drug dealer Black Guerrilla Family member shortly after Newton left a crack house. Black Guerrilla Family is a gang which was founded at San Quentin State Prison and based on Marxist and Maoist ideology.)

Wreckless Eric is one of the most influential artists to emerge from the Stiff Records stable. He went on to have one of punk’s biggest hits with “Whole Wide World” in 1977 and inspired a legion of artists from Yo La Tengo to The Vaccines and from Marianne Faithful to Lilly Allen. In his thirty-seven He has made seventeen albums and worked with, or had his songs covered by artists as Proclaimers, Blockheads, Lightning Seeds, Holly Golightly, Cliff  Richard, Monkees, Toten Hosen and Two Lone Swordsmen, to name a few.

The British painter Peter Blake named Wreckless Eric as one of the most important pop icons of the past forty years, and included him on the remake of The Beatles Sergeant Pepper’s cover. (Blake has made the original one.) Another important pop icon Lou Reed played his Take The Cash on on his last ever radio show, recorded a week before he died. Fire Records will reissue his 1989 album Le Beat Group Electrique on Record Store Day. It will be on 19 April this year.

This is a day for the people who make up the world of the record store – the staff, the customers, and the artists – to come together and celebrate the unique culture of a record store and the special role these independently owned stores play in their communities. Special vinyl and CD releases and various promotional products are made exclusively for the day, hundreds of artists make special appearances and performances since 2007. Record Store Day will be on April 19 this year.

Thee Oh Sees announced their hiatus in December, but there happened something because the new album „Drop” will be released on Record Store Day by Castle Face Records. 70s psychedelic rock from Beatles to Black Sabbath via glam station.

The band formed as a side project in 1997 by John Dwyer. Then he was in the Coachwhips (wild garage punk, disbanded, re-united this year), The Hospitals (noise rock, quit) and Pink and Brown (noise punk, disbanded). Maybe John Dwyer is an hyperactive person, because there was a solo album under the name of Damaged Bugs in February.
