LP on Svart Records
Ultra primitive destructive Italian garage punkers SLOKS have recently released their new album A KNIFE IN YOUR HAND on VOODOO RHYTHM RECORDS. Label boss Rev. Beatman says about them:
I saw them on a local alternative festival in Italy for the first time. It was so destructive and suicidal dangerous and amazing eye catching the same time. The female singer Ivy Claudy almost killed herself in her act strangling herself with the microphone cable and screamed as loud that she spit blood on the same time, Buddy Fuzz wanked constantly his guitar overdosing totally distorting and endless feedback. They were so negative and creative the same time… It was defiantly way too much for the audience and most of them left immediately except us… and they had to open the festival anyways hahaha… I was blown away of the energy the band… Their second album is another nasty piece of trash!!!!! Enjoy and book them if you wanna experience a live madness massacre!!!!!
This man from the little English town of St. Albans

has rebuilt Pink Floyd 1979s monster concept album The Wall brick by brick.
Maybe you think, what I also: who the fuck is care about Pink Floyd? Well, Ben Wallers. And this man, I say, is total crazy: he has rebuilt that whole fucking 26-song album! Perhaps on long rainy days.
After more than two years it released I thought after a long hardworking Friday that the time is here, I lay down, and just listened to it. Hey, I say, it’s not a fuckin’ cover album but an authentic masterpiece like the original one. Mr. Wallers not just modernized, but reinterpreted it for our time. The Wall is about a man who builds an imaginary wall brick by brick around himself from his childhood against his mental traumas and falls in total isolation and gets psychedelic visions about himself as a fascist dictator. And this wall has been rebuilt for us with the title The Dark Side of The Wall by master Ben. He has built it under the name of The Stallion with a mate from his band.
BUT WHO THE FUCK IS BEN WALLERS? A cold bloodily funny guy who writes so sarcastic and provocative lyrics that some says he will be killed one time because of them. He got a notoriety by his band The Country Teasers. It crosses the punk and country and western music in a unique damaged way with some Scotch accent. Also plays alone as The Rebel, and has some projects with different people and made some collabs, e.g. with Texan rock band Spray Paint, and surprisingly: he is a Pink Floyd fan.
And finally, I have listened to the whole fuckin’ original one first time in my life. Hey, it was hard. I say, you don’t do it! Well, I have just tried to do it. At this moment, after 5 songs, I stopped it. Sorry, it’s not my wall.

There are some important Aussie bands, one of them is SCOTT & CHARLENE’S WEDDING. After 3 years a new EP WHEN IN ROME, CARPE DIEM is coming. When I have listened this song from it first, I contentedly observed that yeah, perfect as always: fine indie trash pop, this time like Velvet Undeground:
SCOTT & CHARLENE’S WEEDING was started some years years before in Footscray, Melbourne by Craig Dermody (a fucking furniture removalist from Adelaide) who writes down-and-out pop songs. Anyway the band was named about a golden act of an Australian soap oper Neighbours, when Kylie Minogue and Jason Donovan got married in 1987.

Rural legend and outsider folk artist H.C. SLIM spent his formative years smoking cigarettes and playing his guitar, between distilling moonshine in an old empty factory in the Eastern-Finnish countryside. As an evangelical visionary and wayward preacher, H.C SLIM calls forth revelations of pastoral love and rustic abandoned buildings. His songs are both apocalyptic and illuminating, swelling between religious fervour and starless prophecies of biblical destruction. E.g.:
He had amassed quite a catalog of original songs he’s demoed on a tape recorder, deep in the Eastern Finnish countryside. Over the years cassettes and CDRs began to circulate with original copies selling for high prices before Svart Records drove out to his remote cabin to offer Slim a deal for his debut album.

The making of the album VOUS ET NOUS was also full of twists and turns. It started out as a solo effort by Kabyle musician ARESKI. But little by little, as Areski was filling tapes with poems, improvised skits, electronic experiments, North African trance, refined acoustics and medieval drones BRIGITTE FONATAINE would sneak into the studio at nightfall, adding her voice here and there, her whispers and screams, giving fuel to the fire in a total surreal blaze. The album was originally released in 1977. Now you can get it from KYTHIBONG RECORDS. Anyway Fontaine also collaborated such acts as Stereolab, Jean-Claude Vannier, Gotan Project, Grace Jones or Sonic Youth of course.

On their blistering 7″ debut on 12XU RECORDS, Texan band MISSING PAGES channel the anxiety, exasperation, and jubilation born of those delicate moments in life when the casual comforts and routine are stripped away, forcing us to confront the ugly truth of who we really are.

Ground-zero Louisiana-born rocker LINDA GAIL LEWIS is the younger sister and frequent performing partner of Jerry Lee Lewis, whose piano innovations she carries forward. Her present-at-the-creation cred buoys the record while country musicians ROBBIE FULKS – who sings, plays, leads the band, writes most of the songs, and arranges the others – provides an anchoring sensibility, one that savors old sounds but sidesteps nostalgia on the album WILD! WILD! WILD! on BLOOODSHOT RECORDS (US)

„TERRY is domesticity. TERRY romances the mundane. This is how romance ekes out a triumph amidst mundanity. That’s what Billy Bragg’s New England and Squeeze’s Up The Junction do. TERRY’s suburban escapism moment is Ciao Goodbye.” You can find it on TERRY’s third album I’M TERRY on UPSET THE RHYTHM RECORDS (UK)

In some respects New Yorker ANAMON‘s self released debut album PURPLE, GREEN & YELLOW is the fruit of what the hardcore underground once promised to deliver us: the self-reliance, moxie, and quick/dirty recording ethic of the Minutemen and the Meat Puppets, coupled with Fleetwood Mac and Blue Oyster Cult’s flair for drama and sprinkled with the goosebumpy starlit twang old Crystal Gayle and Gram Parsons records give us.

SUPERHUMAN HAPPINESS is a musical collective led by Brooklyn multi-instrumentalist Stuart Bogie (Arcade Fire, Iron and Wine, Antibalas). BOGIE KAUFMAN MANN’s album VOLUME 1 is a record of improvisations that don’t sound like improvisations because “we wanted to feel like it was a group improvisation all the time, so there was never really a lot of soloing going on – there was a lot of trioing going on.” Playing at low volume on guitar, woodwinds, and percussion, set up close to one another in the same room, headphone-free.

„The foundation for what is on the record comes from long before I had any interest in playing jazz. It is heavily rooted in the grunge, indie, and punk rock that I was listening to in high school. We’d write music, rehearse bands, and play shows all summer long in Baltimore clubs like the Small Intestine, Talking Head, and the old Ottobar. The album CRICKETS is just the sound of those summers as a teenager, but with a decade or two of musical development mixed in” – said composer and bassist ADAM HOPKINS about his album. It is the first release of his label OUT OF YOUR HEAD RECORDS (US)

Portuguese blues passionate THE LEGENDARY TIGERMAN began a solo career in 2000. He plays with the clichés of rocker macho, fascinated by the 50’s aesthetics
His 6th album MISFIT was inspired by Dave Richmond’s book How To Disappear Completely and Never Be Found. He imagined the journey of a man called Misfit who wanted to lose himself in the desert and actually become nothing. Therefore, in May 2016, The Legendary Tigerman i.e. PaoloFurtado and his image crew headed to Los Angeles and film a psychedelic adventure in the form of a road movie between Los Angeles and Death Valley, about the philosophically disturbed journey of a man searching to become nothing.
There Furtado spent his days writing the diaries of this imaginary man, acting, while at night, in motel rooms across the California deserts, armed with a Gibson SG. The album was recorded in Joshua Tree, in the heart of the Mojave Desert.
„We lived the slow desert life, between the studio, the Joshua Tree Saloon, and the Pappy and Harriets, a pub in Pioneer Town, where we went to enjoy some live music. While Dave cooked some amazing Louisiana and Tex-Mex dishes for dinner, fueled with red wine, Modelo beer and Tequila, we recorded the songs in live takes, and then built the wall of sound with overdubs.”
But we now go to Japan. The clip “Motorcycle Boy” is equal parts documentary and music video. Offers a raw glimpse into the slowly vanishing culture of Bōsōzoku – the motorcycle gangs that once ruled the roads of Japan back in the 90’s:
PRIMO! is a raw minimal guitar pop band from Melbourne with the two girls from one of the most amazing Australian pop bands TERRY. Their short, beautifully simple and purposeful songs reference the 40-hour working week, the city, bureaucracy, walking, a ghost and a mirage:
They are going to European tour in August. And also there will be a TERRY tour in Europe in September.
AMICI will release on 13 July on UPSET THE RYTHM RECORDS (UK)
JOHNNY MAFIA hails from Sens, Burgundy (which is known more for it’s wheat and cereal production than rock ‘n’ roll) and bring a young, snotty, explosive and ferociously fun energy that drives audiences into a near-frenzy. Inspired by classics like The Ramones, T-Rex, and The Clash, they also draw heavily on contemporary acts like
Ty Segall, Jay Reatard, and the Wavves. The band have just released the video single for BIG BRAWL
after recently finishing recording and mastering their sophomore album PRINCES DE L’AMOUR with producer JIM DIAMOND – who was the bass player of Dirtbombs and produced albums for The Sonics, Andre Williams, The John Spencer Blues Explosion, White Stripes and countless others.
Jim was forced to shut the doors at his studio Ghetto Recorders in 2015 due to what can only be described as “hipsterfication in the downtown Detroit area when his landlord doubled his rent. He set up a new base in Montpellier, and continues his prolific presence across the scene, working with bands as far and wide from Cambodia to Cleveland. In recent years, Diamond has become something of an unofficial in-house label producer/engineer at DIRTY WATER RECORDS.
The album PRINCES DE L’AMOUR will release on 9 November on DIRTY WATER RECORDS (UK).

Now you can listen to the split CD single of two strange South London bands. On the one hand H0NKIES play a blend of South-London scuzz incorporating elements country, electronic, post-punk and lo-fi. File next to bands such as these South London fellows: Goat Girl, Meatraffle, Warmduscher and Peeping Drexels, but also Rebel and Country Teasers of course. And thye are really just “like a drunken boat.”
On the other part PEEPING DREXELS play sleazy melodies with sloppy beats from South London scum. It’s music for horrible people like you.

It is released on PERMANENT CREEP RECORDS. Order here.
HOTEL LUX tells a tale of barbarity, sorrow, and vengeance. It is an attempt to step into the British realist tradition of portraying the most vulgar and distorted aspects of the communities they (we) live in:
7″ single will be released on Big Score Records in June. Listen and preorder!
You can listen to more songs of them here. Anyway Hotel Lux was the abode of exiled or escaped foreigner communist cadres in Moscow between 1921-54. They lived in fear there because nobody knew who would be labeled as a terrorist, traitor, conspirator or heretic next day.
I think Black Metal got to dead end. The bands want to be more and more radical but just become more and more ridiculous. But there is a fistful of bands like the Swiss Bölzer, the American Liturgy (which is denied by the black metal community) or the Norwegian URARV who are able to bring new shades in the black.

For example the music of URARV is scattered with psychedelic moments and folk tunes. Often it reminds me of the Japanese noise rock band Zeni Geva. The band is headed by Björn Aldrahn Dencker (Dødheimsgard, The Deathtrip, Thorns). He said: The ideas and visions for Urarv started actually back in 2003 during a stay that I had at the local mental institution where I live. (…) We want to tap into uncharted territories to see what lies hidden under the rocks and dead horses and beneath the cold vastness of uncertainty (…) We’re travelling to remote regions of metal music and mental space with this music. Although our message is one of emotional putrefaction, we want to help listeners find a way through the black hole.
And this is the Sannhet i.e. the Truth:
from the new mini album ARGENTUM. It was recorded same time when the debut LP AURUM last year.
