PJ Harvey, Breeders and Throwing Muses influenced bitter sweet garage pop by two Scottish girls
Honeyblood‘s debut single by Fat Cat
It’s unnecessary to write about this album too many words. It’s fuckin’ good THRASH METAL. I’m very pleased; it’s enormously amusing and impossible to get bored with these perfect 32 minutes. Just Slayer, Exodus, Voivod, Nuclear Assault and Pantera came to my mind during the listening, and sometimes the Ministry. Moreover there aren’t guitar solos. It’s extra delight for me, because I like Uncle King’s solos alone.
“We’re so cool that we don’t care that we’re not cool.”
The cement mixer operators have very colourful antecedents. It’s surprising that two of them played bass in avant-garde performance art rock band, Lovely Little Girls. And there are acoustic folk, hard-edge-pop and garage rock bands also. The immediate antecedents:
a noise rock band of Kyle (drums): Bad Drugs,
an old copied cassette thrash band of Zach (guitar, vocal): Zath,
and a thrashy noise punk band of both: Cacaw.
„Evil is ageless. You can be a 90-year-old wizard and still play metal.”
And there is another surprise. Their debut album was released by Thrill Jockey Records.
They’re interesting in avant-garde – experimental – psychedelic music mainly. Some artists from the roster: Jan St. Werner (Mouse on Mars), Black Pus, Boredoms, David Byrne, Chicago Underground, White Hills, Tortoise, Wooden Shjips. So this isn’t a conventional metal album.

Zach: When I was 13 I wanted to be Kurt Cobain.
Kevin (bass): I wanted to be Les Claypool.
Zach: And Kyle wanted to be Dale Crover. (Drummer of the Melvins)
Quotes and interview fragment from Chicago Music

At first there was the legendary Gibson Bros. in Ohio in the mid-80s. They played a unique mix of American roots music: blues, gospel, hill- and rockabilly with punk attitude. After split of the Gibsons the Bassholes were founded in 1992 by a “Gibson”, Don Howland (guitar) and Bim Thomas (drums). They’re the best blues punk band: crude, rude and harsh
After 4 years here is a new album with three covers: The Groundhogs – Express Man (1969), Wayne County & The Electric Chairs – Paranoia Paradise (1977) and Noh Mercy – Caucasian Guilt (1978). Boogieman Stew LP by Columbus Discount Records
Beside the Bassholes Bim Thomas plays in Puffy Areolas and This Moment in Black History. His solo project is the Obnox: weird garage blues soul punk with Tricky-like remixes.

Strange Attractor: fuzzy garage punk from a small town in Northern Ontario, Canada
„Total Shit” trilogy on the b-side. „Feel Like Total Shit” / „This is Total Shit” / „I’m Total Shit” – three songs that give you a 360 degree views from the dregs of modern life : making bad choices, feeling powerless against the will of people who make bad choices, and just generally having everything stacked against you and turning those bad vibes inwards. In the Strange Attractor land, when we point fingers we have to remember that we are simultaneously pointing at ourselves.”

Melvins “Tres Cabrones” album with original drummer, Mike Dillard.
Dillard left the band and was replaced by Dale Crover in 1985, but they and Buzz Osborne (guitar, vocals) then played together in Kurt Cobain’s first band, Fecal Matter, moreover Crover played drums in the early Nirvana. An other founding member of Melvins is Matt Lukin, who founded the Mudhoney. He is retired from music and working as a carpenter since 2001.

The Bitch Prefect list Pavement and the Rolling Stones as two of their influences. In their boredom and apathy they deliver an encyclopedic exploration of time, space and rare Australian birds. Lil’ musical ornithology for everybody:

The Magnetix is a French garage rock’n’roll duo. On the occasion of their 15th anniversary they have released 3 EPs on 3 different labels this year. 3 simple questions about records to Looch Vibrato:

What was the first own record in your life?
Sonny Terry & Brownie McGhee – Back Country Blues. I was 14 years old, I was with a friend and found it in his father’s disco a blast… 1 year after my uncle gave me an harmonica and I started to play blues music with guys more older than me, it sounded like shit white blues. 2 years after I’ve discovered the „real white blues” with Animals. At this time it was a new kind of music for me with Standells, Seeds, Yardbirds, Remains, Music Machine etc…, in the same time I listened to Syd Barrett .
Note: Sonny Terry (1911-1986) was a blind blues harmonica player, Brownie McGhee (1915-1996) was a singer and guitarist. They were a pair since 1942 and played Piedmont blues. It’s differentiated from other styles by its ragtime-based rhythms.
Which record made the biggest influence on you?
In a first time, like i said a lot of 60’s bands, and a record like „V.U.” Velvet Underground, „Piper At The Gates Of Dawn” Pink Floyd or „Closer” Joy Division change a lot of things in my vision of music, but 1 concert change really my life to play, The Mummies in Bordeaux in 1994, wild, raw, kick my ass, i thought ” I want to do mess like that”
What was the last record that you heard?
The last best one for me is Cyclops Reap by White Fence.
