badlands1

Adrian Tenney‘s every records are very good. I think it on the basis of three albums. This is a garage punk. This is not!!! And then here is her solo project, the Badlands. The So Little album has made in the Southern-Californian desert. Naturally it is acoustic. There were lots of instruments. The unusual are ukulele, shaker and some Balinese instruments: Ceng-Ceng, Gongs, Kempli, Kenong, Kajar. She has played all, except for the Kajar, and every vocal has made by her, and the album was recorded by her. I don’t write that she is the author of all songs, it is so much evident. Yes, it’s a very personal album. South-Californian desert folk:

The Underwear Heads were long-rumored to have been a made-up band. Evidence of their existence over the past 30 plus years had been reliant upon a picture sleeve for a single that never came with a record. The legend of the U-Heads extended far-and-wide as „the sleeve without a record.” Truth of the matter is that vinyl was pressed for the release, but due to a manufacturing error all copies were defective and were unceremoniously sent to the garbage dump while some sleeves managed to slip out into the wild.” (…) John instantly claimed he’d not heard someone utter the band’s name since 1983. (…) an early-generation master was located in Australia and the world is finally privileged to hear the Tangmania EP.” Six self-recorded songs from 1980 on 7” by Third Man Records

The RockFire Funk Express was formed by three afro-Americans brothers in Detroit. In 1973 they recorded two songs for a single. The release day is today. Because of the band changed name and style by influence of an Alice Cooper show. The new style is called proto-punk today (yes, they were the pre-Bad Brains) and the new name would be Death. The Columbia Records president Clive Davis implored the band to change its name, but they refused. So their first album (recorded in 1974) released in 2009. Their only one single was self-released before the next style and name change which was in 1977. The Death transformed into a gospel-rock band: 4th Movement. (The Bad Brains was founded in same year.) Then they transformed into a reggae band. The Death has become famous in 2009. The doc film is very coming soon

and the second album is on the way. But there is a new guitarist because one of them died in 2002. And then RockFire Funk Express before Death:

By the way, their story has begun 9.2.1964. On that day the Hackney brothers were sat down by their father to witness The Beatles’ first appearance on The Ed Sullivan Show. The following day David found a discarded guitar in an alley…

Bölzer

bolzer

After the Hellhammer, Celtic Frost, Coroner and Triptykon here is the subsequent fantastic thrash/black/death metal band from Helvetia: Bölzer. The word „stems from the German colloquial verb “bolzen”, which means executing something in a very excessive or intensive manner (…) The origin and most commonly used meaning of the word finds itself in hitting something with severity. “Bolzer”, or the Swiss-German “bölzer” is then the masculine noun that would be used to describe the person doing the aforementioned. Again, it is a colloquialism and is not widely used in Switzerland but I found it to be a beautiful word in both meaning and sound.” Very nice psychedelic space death metal between the grave and the cosmos:

Aura 12″ LP by Iron Bonehead. During the listening you think about that this is a duo.

Altató / Lullaby

gregh

Például Philip Glass, Steve Reich és Gavin Bryers nyomdokain haladó fiatal angol zeneszerző, Greg Haines ad koncertet május 29.-én Budapesten az Akváriumban. Minden bizonnyal most megjelent lemezét fogja bemutatni, mely szintetizátorokra és ütőhangszerekre épül. Kitűnő háttérzene íráshoz, olvasáshoz, főzéshez, sziesztához. S mivel ülő koncert lesz, csak óvatosan! Mert például:
– Hát te? Mi van a fejeddel? Hol törted össze magad?
– Greg Haines koncerten.
– Akkora volt a pogó, vagy mi?
– Elbóbiskoltam és lefordultam a székről.

The Whole from Where We Were LP

Greg Haines is a young English musician and composer, who follow in (for example) Philip Glass, Steve Reich and Gavin Bryars’ tracks. He gives a concert on 29 May at the Akvarium in Budapest. In all probability he will perform his new album which focuses on synthesizers and percussion. It’s excellent background music for writing, reading, cooking or siesta. The concert will be sedentary, so take care! Or else:
– What happened with your head? Where you broke yourself?
– On Greg Haines concert.
– Was the pogo so large, or what?
– I have dozed off and fallen from the chair.

You can find more dates on his site.

Full Circle

fullcircle1We have got a nice letter with a download link from China. Chachy ask for a review about his bands’ new split LP. The record is named Full Circle. I have listened it repeatedly, but couldn’t get bore. The American Libyan Hit Squad is on the A side. It’s a very good punk band a la NoMeansNo, and because of the voice of the singer is similar to Jello Biafra’s voice, their music comes into my mind the common album of NoMeansNo and Biafra. In the album title track Greg Ginn plays from Black Flag:

The LHS is now defunct because Chachy, the sole continuous member has moved to Shanghai (maybe to open a tex-mex bar there) and formed the Round Eye with some expat members. This phrase used by Asians to describe the white men. They play be-bop influenced hard rock and roll with alt and baritone saxophones. Their music sometimes almost power pop, but this is not disturbing. It’s a really great album by Genjing Records/ Ripping Records
