"When I came from Lagos (Nigeria) to San Francisco (Bilbao) life was tough here or there. I did not mind, I had a purpose in my life: to fight the system that fucks up everyday of our life. Back in my hometown, I was an unknown songwriter but, as soon as I arrived to the streets of Bilbao, I discovered Punk Rock. It had energy and attitude and was exactly what I needed. Next thing was to get a band. I found out the most primitive drummer in Bilbao, Alberto Lopez (ex-La Secta, ex-Yogur, ex-Atom-Rhumba), and the noisiest guitarrist around, Mattin. The band was formed under my name, it could not have been any other way. These songs go beyond what rock and roll is and what it could be, in fact they are the degenereation of Rock&Roll against the regeneration of Bilbao." LP

NASHVILLE, TN Jack White kiadója, a Thirdman, Charley Patton, Blind Willie McTell és a Mississippi Sheiks teljes fennmaradt életművét időrendi sorrendben vinyl lemezeken megjelenteti. A maguk korában roppant népszerűségnek örvendő előadók dalai a mai fülnek szinte hallgathatatlanok.
Charley Patton (1891-1938) a legnagyobb hatású ismert delta blues gitáros akkora sztár volt, hogy társaihoz hasonlóan nem kóborolt Mississsippi Deltaszerte, kizárólag fixált bulikon lépett fel, ahol játékával, hangjával és Hendrixtől ismert kunsztjaival megőrjítette a közönséget. 1929-30-ban és 34-ben rengeteg dalát vették lemezre.
Szegény Blind Willie McTell (1898-1959) gyerekkorában vesztette el a látását. Aztán apját, végül anyját, hát ment amerre… ment. Georgiában barangolt 12 húros gitárjával. 1927 és 35 között rendszeresen jelentek meg lemezei, igaz különböző nevek alatt, mert a konkurens társaságokkal más és más néven kötötte szerződésit. (Ahogy azt egyébként mások is csinálták.) 1949-es lemeze után újra kóbor zenész lett. 1956-ban egy atlantai utcasarkon ismerte fel egy lemezboltos, aki egy üveg kukorica whiskyvel becsábította üzletébe, ahol néhány fellépés során szalagra rögzítették utolsó felvételeit.
A Mississippi Sheiks triónak 1930-tól 36-ig voltak lemezei. Legnagyobb slágerüket mindenki ismeri: Sitting On The Top Of The World. A csapatból Bo Carter külön karriert is befutott olyan egyértelmű, lényegretörő dalaival, mint a Please Warm My Wiener!
Dalaikat természetesen boldog-boldogtalan játszotta, feldolgozta, melyek mögött elvesztek az eredeti előadók. Ők azok. Meg ők. <<< Itt a Delta Bluesról bővebben.

“Chinese Whispers is a party game in which a whispered message is passed around a circle in the expectation that, in the telling, it will become comically distorted or exaggerated by the time it completes the circuit. In English, Chinese Whispers has become an idiomatic expression describing how a story passed from person to person will, inevitably, evolve or mutate in unpredictable ways. With Lady From Shanghai, the goal was to meticulously apply a Chinese Whispers methodology to the composition and recording of a coherent and complex musical work.

In the studio, the individual musician must be sequestered, provided with the minimum of information and protected from suggestion and influence. All that he can know must be restricted to the state of the composition at the stage of its evolution that the Producer chooses to engage him. As much as possible, composition should occur during the recorded performance. To facilitate, the Producer may need to lie, misdirect, misinform or confuse the musician. It may be helpful to move the goal posts at the last moment. The musician should not be allowed to see the Big Picture until the composition exists in a near finished form, and, ideally, only after he has contributed to it. The musician should be alone with his thoughts, uncertain but determined. Isolated. The goal should be to capture the unique and distinctive voice of the individual as he struggles to cobble. Only once over the course of the entire Lady From Shanghai project did any two band members find themselves in the same building at the same time. Even then, Michele and Robert were not in the same room at the same time for more than thirty-seven seconds. Neither heard what the other was playing. Conversation was limited to pleasantries. I shooed them away brusquely.ps: The difference between a musician and a civilian is that the musician will go out on stage in front of 10,000 people and make a complete ass of himself and then go out and do it all over again the next night without a second thought. “

Aki eddig azt gondolta, hogy a kísérleti zajzene az egy gyengédebb, és befelé forduló, művészkedő dolog, annak a nézetét ez az anyag megfogja változtatni.
