CRETIN STOMPERS (memphis/NYC ex-Magic Kids, Jay Reatard Band, Barbaras, Wavves) – Looking Forward To Being Attacked, debut LP

Infectious oozing pop slime. You will be rewarded with a dynamic explosion of space punk filtered through a clogged toilet of remarkable pop hooks and impeccable melodic surges that hit such wavering heights, you just might need some orange slices to keep your eyes on the road. And as if Cretin Stompers couldn’t give you any more ear candy to clean out your cavities with, they have culled two covers from The Styrenes and Dave Brock (of Hawkwind). Recommended if you like: Magic Kids, Barbaras, King Tuff, R. Stevie Moore, Ween, Jay Reatard. Full Album Stream

NONES – Midwestern Family Values, debut LP

„Jesus christ, this is awful.”

This LP from mutant noise trio NONES is no joy ride, and it’s nothing you want to relax with after a hectic day, but more of an instant agitator, a tool for stirring up your inner turmoil and a safe place to keep your paranoid thoughts where they can drift around in a contained space. It’s the best kind of death trip we’ve found in a long while, and while nothing sounds quite like them, it’s kind of like the soft lullaby accompanying a celebratory castration on a summer day, or maybe even a high-end hysterectomy on a fancy yacht. No smiley faces, hearts or flowers, just crying babies, broken dreams, fever sweat, double-vision and boiled-over belligerence, cooked down into a thick mess of vengeance and insanity. Recommended if you like: Jesus Lizard, Flipper, Grong Grong, Aluminum Knot Eye, Toupee, Negative Trend, Puffy Areolas, Von Lmo, MX-80 Sound, migraine
headaches.

SOUTHERN COMFORT – Suzanne, 7″

There’s just no way around it, this Southern Comfort 7” is possibly the most visceral bummer punk classic two-sider of 2014, and your head won’t be the same after you hear it blasting with the windows open on a warm sunny day. If you aren’t already familiar, be sure to check into all the other great bands Angie is currently involved with Ruined Fortune and Straight Arrows. MARY MONDAY & THE BITCHES – I Gave My Punk Jacket To Rickie, 7″, archival series

One of the greatest west coast punk singles of the first wave is back in print. Former stripper Mary Monday had a life shrouded in mystery, and conflicting reports in the historic documentation as to the band and Mary’s origins are still baffling punkologists to this day, including her mysterious death a few years after this single’s release. As legend goes, she arrived in San Francisco from Vancouver in 1976 with green hair and put together a band while still in high school that played around the Filipino cabaret scene. In August of ’76 when The Ramones made their first West Coast appearances, the opening band for their big San Francisco debut show was Mary Monday & the Bitches. Later on, her band was alternately known as the Street Punks. “I Gave My Punk Jacket To Rickie,” it’s as raw and stupid as punk ever was. Recommended if you like: Bags, Avis Davis & Joy Rider, Avengers, Nuns, Alley Cats, Dishrags, Eyes, Beex.

THE MAN – Carousel of Sound, debut 7″ EP

Panicky/riveting/down-sizing guitar crunch, merging with the heavy dose of anxiety-riddled bass throb, over-worked, stress-wrenched drumming, and all slathered in “workplace harassment”-style vocals. Recommended for fans of Baseball Furies, Wire, Reatards, Persuaders, Guilty Pleasures.

Slumberland News

Slumberland began operations in 1989 as a collective effort consisting of members of DC area bands Velocity Girl, Big Jesus Trash Can/Whorl, Black Tambourine and Powderburns. We were inspired by such musical happenings as C-86, early Creation, Postcard, K, Bus Stop, lower East Side noise, and also the renegade art aesthetics of people like Cage, Burroughs and Duchamp. The explosion of punk had left behind a thriving network of ‘zines, labels and distributors and we felt that there was room for our noise-loving, pop-obsessed aesthetic. While there were loads of US indie labels releasing a steady stream of 7″s, there wasn’t much pop going on.”

Gold-Bears second album is on the way: Atlanta’s noise-pop greats are back with their second album. Dalliance is more focused and abrasive than that 2011 debut, combining their noise-pop influences from forebears like Boyracer and The Wedding Present with shades of the post-hardcore and post-punk. Stagnant Pools is a drums’n’guitar duo from Bloomington, Indiana. They mix Sonic Youth with Joy Division in their noisy post punk indie rock music. Initially it’s interesting, but then it becomes very boring.

ggtattoos

A cult band in garage punk underground: LiveFastDie. Forward on GG Allin’s way

from Hit Stains LP which is a compilation from their singles on Almost Ready Records. First 100 on shit colored wax.

The band is named after a tattoo of GG Allin, and one of them is same town as GG — Littleton, New Hampshire. „I heard his music for the first time when I was 11, before I heard any other punk music. Living in Littleton, there’s always some older kid who’s proud of being from the same town as GG. I actually picked up his step-dad while he was hitch-hiking once. He tried to convince me to get an eight ball with him.” Eight ball: a quantity of cocaine or crystal that weighs an eighth of an ounce, which is equivalent to 3.5 grams.

There was a very British-style twee pop band in America, the Aberdeen. The band It formed in 1993 and signed to the seminal English label Sarah Records, where they were the only not British act. The label closed in 1995, the band broke-up in same year. In the recent times some members have started a new project, The Luxembourg Signals. First single before the album on Shelflife Records

Tender is a brand new Hollander vinyl only record label,  their musical spectrum ranges from soul to garage punk. The 5th release is the debut single of Chasing Rainbows. It’s a Santa Barbara (California)/Amsterdam based music collective with 5 core members. One of them is Henk Jonkers, a multi-instrumentalist, who is active in the Dutch scene in various alt/blues/punk/rock bands from the mid-80s, for example: Fatal Flowers, Molly Rotten, 13, Do The Undo, Hallo Venray, etc, as well as produced albums for Claw Boys Claw, zZz and more. Chasing Rainbows play 60s style psychedelic, „roots” influenced garage rock.

Bulbul started as a one-man band with guitar, drum machine and vacuum cleaner in Austria. It became a trio. They speak numerous musical languages from jazz to metal. They did cooperation with Leonid Soybelman (Ne Zhdali, Kletka Red), KK Null (Zeni Geva). Horribly funny music.

Carsick Cars are among the leading alternative Chinese rock bands. They describe themselves as noise rock band, but the measure of noise shows low degree. (Perhaps the Chinese notion about noise differs from the Western conception.) Soft Sonic Youth-like, Velvet Underground influenced indie rock with Chinese motifs on a surprisingly good album which was co-produced by Hamish Kilgoure from The Clean! (Influential New Zealander indie rock band.)

„3” album via Maybe Mars (China) and Tenzenmen (Australia)

Their side projects: 1. White+. Kraut-like electronic duo. First CD was produced by Blixa Bargeld (Einstürzende Neubauten, Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds).
2. One of my fav Chinese bands: Snapline. Post punk trio. Debut album was produced and released by Martin Atkins (drummer of PIL, Pigface and many more).

„I Hate Mel Tormé”

„We were playing this one club in Rome. It was a small place, it was really packed, and we’re doing Penetrate. As I go into the song I realize that the audience is singing along with me. Then I noticed they were doing that on a lot of songs. I had met a bunch of these people before the show, and they didn’t speak any English.” – said Dennis Most in an interview. It’s miraculous because his band was almost totally unknown until the early 2000s.

Dennis Most & The Instigators were formed as a punk band in 1979. Before this there were two bands of Mr. Most: „Punk” was founded in 1972, Dennis Most & AudioLove in 1976. Punk was “trippy blues/garage-rock combo” influenced by Standells, Troggs and sames. AudioLove was „garagey, metally proto-punk” influenced by Stooges, MC5 and early British heavy metal bands.

most1

Dennis Most & The Instigators had only a self-released single in that time. Most released solo recordings in 1982 (7″) and 1985 (LP), among his songs there was a Cole Porter interpretation too! (Anyway Porter was a punk by his extravagant, scandalous lifestyle. Two of his songs is sung by Iggy Pop. One with Debbie Harry, Two on his cover album „Apres”.)
The Instigators were resurrected in the early 2000s. Since then their early materials were released beside new recordings on various indie labels in Finland, Italy, Germany and US. Now here is the brand new material, „Instigate Me” with 7 songs, among these is an interpretation of Cheap Trick’s He’s A Whore. Good old-style punk music like Ramones or Misfits with more metallic edge and some gothic influence. Strange that the music reminds me of the Finnish Psychoplasma, but I almost sure that they don’t know about it. „Instigate Me” is released on CD-r by Kotlovan Records in Russia!

The band’s bassist is Keith Grave of Atomic Buddha.

ps: „I Hate Mel Tormé” is a song by Denni Most & Instigators. He was an American jazz-pop singer, musician and composer.
