Rock in the Ukrainian Garages

Dimidron Novichenko (guitar), Genesis Shuher (bass) and Artich Barhatni (drums) are THE BEZZOOMMIES
 

We were formed in late 2011. Planned to be a canonical raw garage punk band, but after “Sovetskoe Shampanskoe” began to appear something new, not similar to what we’ve done. We called it post-garage. Now we have songs which are a mix of psychedelic rock, post-punk, no wave and so on which you may hear on "Garmata"
 

We don’t have any garage scene in Ukraine. Our new underground scene is developing at the initial level. There are few garage-based bands: The Claps (use and unite the elements of garage, punk and indie in their music trying to revival the true spirit of 60’s and 70’s), Straytones (have roots in traditional blues and garage rock stylings, with some influences of psychedelic, surf and old school punk rock), Turnaround (combining blues, psychedelic, classic, progressive, stoner and garage rock) but there is nothing like "scene". 

Sum total: 4 bands with 3-3 members, all together are 10 men and 2 women.

A valaha készült egyetlen rockopera

Tizenkilenc éves voltam, amikor Guy Ritchie megcsinálta a Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels című filmet, aminek nincs köze a későbbiekben tárgyalandó rockoperához. Akkoriban néha egy levegőt szívtam egy fiatalemberrel, aki politoxikomániája folytán néha elég furcsán viselkedett. A legfurcsább húzása az volt, amikor a fenti filmet elejétől a végéig végigmondta minden részletre kitérve, röpke három óra alatt. Persze ez így teljesen értelmetlen volt, ráadásul unalmas is, de maga a herkulesi erőfeszítés mégis valahogy meghatott. Azóta vágyom arra, hogy én is egyszer töviről hegyire végigmondjak egy filmet pont úgy, ahogy Némó tette annak idején. És ez a pillanat most érkezett el, a Ken Russell rendezésében készült, a Who által írt és játszott Tommy című rockopera képében.

Ezt most elmondom egyszerűen, ahogy van. Végig az egészet. Az a legszebb benne, hogy ha netán végigolvasnád, utána sem tudnál többet róla, mint ha csak az imdb ismertetőt nézed meg, pedig az csak ennyi: A psychosomatically deaf, dumb and blind boy becomes a master pinball player and the object of a religious cult because of that.

“Chinese Whispers is a party game in which a whispered message is passed around a circle in the expectation that, in the telling, it will become comically distorted or exaggerated by the time it completes the circuit. In English, Chinese Whispers has become an idiomatic expression describing how a story passed from person to person will, inevitably, evolve or mutate in unpredictable ways. With Lady From Shanghai, the goal was to meticulously apply a Chinese Whispers methodology to the composition and recording of a coherent and complex musical work.

In the studio, the individual musician must be sequestered, provided with the minimum of information and protected from suggestion and influence. All that he can know must be restricted to the state of the composition at the stage of its evolution that the Producer chooses to engage him. As much as possible, composition should occur during the recorded performance. To facilitate, the Producer may need to lie, misdirect, misinform or confuse the musician. It may be helpful to move the goal posts at the last moment. The musician should not be allowed to see the Big Picture until the composition exists in a near finished form, and, ideally, only after he has contributed to it. The musician should be alone with his thoughts, uncertain but determined. Isolated. The goal should be to capture the unique and distinctive voice of the individual as he struggles to cobble. Only once over the course of the entire Lady From Shanghai project did any two band members find themselves in the same building at the same time. Even then, Michele and Robert were not in the same room at the same time for more than thirty-seven seconds. Neither heard what the other was playing. Conversation was limited to pleasantries. I shooed them away brusquely.

ps: The difference between a musician and a civilian is that the musician will go out on stage in front of 10,000 people and make a complete ass of himself and then go out and do it all over again the next night without a second thought. “

The Parasites Of The Western World was an LSD and Philip K. Dick inspired rock band in the second half of the 70’s.
