LC PUMPKIN PLAYS THEE OH SEES

musicmakeyoufeelgood

LC PUMPKIN comes from a shambolic low-fidelity musical attempt Les Cactus & The Rumpy Pumpkins, somewhere from Brighton. He makes funny tinker music with fuzz banjo, piano, sampler, cut & paste backbeats. It rattles and clicks. As if every sound would be clinched together loosly. He has made an EP with four Thee Oh Sees covers. Of course these are very particular covers, would be hard to recognize the original ones:

1. The Gouger (Sucks Blood, 2007)
2. Tidal Wave (7″ single 2009).
3. Koka Kola Jingle (The Master’s Bedroom Is Worth Spending a Night In, 2008)
4. Make Them Kiss (Demos EP, 2007)

Published with kind permission from John Dwyer. He said they’re „interesting takes of the tunes”. FREE DOWNLOAD

You can see LC PUMPKIN with Samara Lubelski and Stephen Steinbrink on 4th of October at The Lexington in London.

Because It Is In Their Blood

– Why is the Latin American psychedelic scene so strong?
– Because it is in their blood – said Mr. Obsolete.

a fucking furniture removalist from Adelaide

“I’m a fucking furniture removalist from Adelaide. I write down-and-out pop songs. I write songs about every job that I do.”

He is Craig Dermody, well, he writes down-and-out pop songs exactly like Parquet Courts. Bored, melanholic, sometimes angry, simple, beautiful

Craig’s band is Scott & Charlene’s Wedding, named about a golden act of an Australian soap oper Neighbours, when Kylie Minogue and Jason Donovan got married in 1987. Anyway 3rd album Mid Thirties Single Scene will be released in September by Fire Records (UK).

Here is a Beastie Boys cover from a brand new EP, and the Footscray Station (Wikipedia) from the first album.

BORN TO BE PARROT

„We started university together, but we never were good students, so instead of just smokin’ and drinkin’, we decided to play music as well.

parrots2cut

We’ve always listened to rock’n’roll and hip hop music. That’s our biggest influence, and The Strokes were very important to us. Our sound is similar to theirs, but just as it is to bands that were a big influence to them, like Television, The Modern Lovers, Iggy Pop, and anything produced by John Cale. But I think that people like Roy Orbison, Jack Nitzsche, Brian Wilson, The Creation, The Groupies, The Cramps, and The Beastie Boys played a more important part in the music we write.”

Right before I was in the kitchen, which is situated under my room where The Parrots went on loudly, but just the drums and bass could be heard in the kitchen, and I was listening a very good punk band. Anyway like Wildmen, or Black Lips, and so funny

THE PARROTS, from Madrid

7″ + debut album by Heavenly Recordings (UK)

„Also, if you compare Madrid to Barcelona, it’s really different. Barcelona is more European, it’s more similar to London or Paris, whereas Madrid is just really different in its own way!”

terry

A new Aussie quartet with members of such great garage bands as UV Race, Total Control, Dick Diver, Constant Mongrel, School Of Radiant Living, Eastlink, Russell Street Bombings, Lower Plenty, The Backstabbers – maybe you know some – and Xanthe Waite sings one of Mick Harvey’s Gainbsbourg album.

TERRY has been formed after a Total Control US tour in Mexico City in 2015 when two couples have decided to start a simple and charming pop band that could tour and vacation together. But more telling about that „simple and charming pop” that The Rebel (ex-Country Teasers) is chosen to play with them on their first show in London. And good like Parquet Courts is.

Debut album on Upset The Rhythm (UK)

Masters of Puppet

Singer Andy Savage said

As I see it, humanity is something that’s partly performed and party instinctual. Like puppets, we sometimes are controlled by parts of ourselves that we never really become acquainted with, but are always there. This song is me confronting that shadow

From The Better Half of England Lost

Once upon a time somewhere in a disintegrating country which have been defeated by mass stupidity there is a little DIY record label OneC Records. They are interested in punk/experimental rock, and released such first class bands as The Pheromoans, Ivan The Tolerable, Bilders, Queer’d Science or Year Of Birds. Or GAD WHIP, a strange post punk no wave band

khost

khost is an industrial doom metal duo from Birmingham, UK, but it has been named after a city and a region in Afghanistan. An EP titled Needles Into The Ground will be released soon on Cold Spring Records with three songs from their latest album which have been de/re-constructed by Justin K. Broadrick of Godflesh, and one unreleased song.

Yes, this is metal, but literally.

Godflesh is one of the most influential industrial/drone metal bands. It was founded by Justin K. Broadrick (who was the guitarist of Napalm Death in 1985-86) and G.C. Green in 1988. The band dissolved in 2002, and reformed in 2009.

Justin Broadrick (1985-86: guitar) grew up in a hippie commune. He was about 8 when he heard Lou Reed’s Metal Machine Music at first. After Napalm Death he was influenced by 80s hip-hop sound and acid house. His other bands: Final (power electronics, dark ambient, founded in 1982),  Techno Animal (industrial hip-hop with Kevin Martin from GOD, 1991), Jesu (post-metal, 2003), Pale Sketcher (“shoegazy dream-pop that’s almost techno”, 2010) and more

Jonnie Kitchen Sound System

jonnie1

My favorite electro Scotch, Jonnie Common, after amazing debut and too perfect and dry second, now here is his crazy third album, made exclusivley from sounds of his kitchen. It started with an oven door.

„The oven in my flat at the time made a really great thud noise when you shut the door, and I thought I really want to hear this as a kick-drum in a song.

That one idea escalated into a whole album Kitchen Sound. It will be released with hishandmade fridge magnets soon on Song, by Toad Records.

More Oven is like a Mouse on Mars
