The Urinals has begun as a punk parody band with minimal musical skill in 1978. The first show was so good that three of the five members stayed together like parody of themselves until 1983. At this moment they changed their name to 100 Flowers and disbanded. They have reformed in 1996. Their songs has been covered by Butthole Surfers, Digital Leather, Grass Widow, Halo of Flies, Human Eyes, Lili Z, Meatmen, Mika Miko, Mike Watt, Minutemen, Sex Cult, The Gun Club, Yo La Tengo and others.

I think these subgenres are unprecedented: noise country, industrial folk. These phrases have come to my mind while I listened to Fat History Month
split 7″ with My Dad. They are a noise math rock band with 3 drummers. The Fat History’s new album is still fresh.

Craig „Chachy” Englund is an American musician who living in Shanghai for 3 years. His home punk rock band the Libyan Hit Squad is hibernated now. His Chinese band the Round Eye has formed in 2012 by a bunch of ex-pat. Their music is more complex than the LHS. There are rhythm’n’blues and doo wop elements beside punk rock:
Round Eye: slang used by Asians to describe the white man.

Your Chinese tour has ended now. Whereabouts you were? What was it? Did you see and experience interesting things?
Influences are wide ranging. From a song writing perspective, Phil’s primary influences are the alt-country of Wilco, the surrealist melancholia of Sparklehorse and experimental rock of Califone, though more than a hint of Captain Beefheart’s magisterial influence can be detected in the lyrics and song titles. Ian brings bluegrass chops and punk sensibilities in equal measure, whilst Barney’s slide and fingerstyle guitar reveal a love of the pre-war splendor of Mississippi John Hurt and Blind Willie McTell.

– This noise is very good, sometimes danceable – I told me while laid on the bed and listened F/LOR‘s music:

Made by a French multi-instrumentalist, Fabrice Laureau. He is playing really various styles of music in some bands (e.g.: NLF3) and mixed Yann Tiersen records (for example: Amelie). CD or digital album by Prohibited Records

Adrian Tenney‘s every records are very good. I think it on the basis of three albums. This is a garage punk. This is not!!! And then here is her solo project, the Badlands. The So Little album has made in the Southern-Californian desert. Naturally it is acoustic. There were lots of instruments. The unusual are ukulele, shaker and some Balinese instruments: Ceng-Ceng, Gongs, Kempli, Kenong, Kajar. She has played all, except for the Kajar, and every vocal has made by her, and the album was recorded by her. I don’t write that she is the author of all songs, it is so much evident. Yes, it’s a very personal album. South-Californian desert folk:

Vanishing Winter is the Dear Eloise‘s fourth 7” on Genjing Records (and seventh release overall), is a departure from the playful shoegaze-influenced pop purity of their earlier work, tacking down a darker path:
Li Daiguo, the acclaimed boundary-pushing musical polymath known as much for his complex compositions performed on a wide spectrum of traditional instruments as his often-bewildering live performances that have seen the American-born Chinese cavort with gypsies, tramps and other self-described lunatics alongside some of the country’s most respected avant-garde and experimental musicians. His latest effort, the seven-inch vinyl release Music for Advertisements, sees Li presenting a series of sonic advertisements for seven locations that the 32-year-old appreciated during his six years in Chengdu. „I practice a lot of different styles of music, including shona music, classical Indian, Chinese and Western classical music plus different types of Chinese opera and the like. (…) The Music For Advertisement 7″ is about emotions that I observed and had that were associated in my mind with things going on in Chengdu when I lived there—not necessarily big things or events, but just little things that you might notice and have a feeling about. (…) And how long you sit there and watch, listen and what the day is like will obviously affect the mood—like hoards of rickshaws and cars and bicycles like massive schools of fish through the smog or the dark dampness of a TB hospital where people are full of a variety of emotions while waiting in line outside under the perpetually-grey skies of Chengdu to test their blood or do X-rays and not cough blood everywhere.”

The Dyne „We got together in Beijing in Spring 2012. It’s me on guitar and bass and another guy, Bai Tianke, on drums and percussion. I was in the original lineup of Beijing indie folk outfit Fragmentary Portrait from 2003-05 and a member of Rubber Phonographic Needle until 2010. Bai Tianke was the original drummer for Careless.” Minimal surf rock:

Riitaoja is a Finnish band. His first album is a very quiet record. Good to listen. So much that I didn’t want write about it, but during the listening their music took me in the mood to write. Lack of something better I call this style slow country – doom folk. Sometimes they remind me of the Bohren und der Club of Gore. I understand sole word from the entire album: pizzeria. The album was recorded in the communal living room of a municipal summer house during one of the snowiest winters in recent memory. The drummer was in the one of best Finnish band, Sielun Veljet.

Teresa Maldonado is a Texan singer/songwriter. „Drawing influences from her perennial favourites the darkly gothic Bauhaus, as well as Natacha Atlas’ exotic Mish Maoul, the black metal of Venom.” The songs were composed on her much loved piano which was tuning last time in 1992. She plays eclectic haunted folk under Georgia’s Horse moniker.

I didn’t wait very hard garage rock from Mikal Cronin (Charlie and The Moonheart, Epsilons, Party Fowl, Okie Dokie, Ty Segall), but in the first minutes I was surprised. Sha-la-la guitar pop. But I looked up suddenly several times during the listening – Hey, it’s good! And I listened it three times.
