CHRIS STROFFOLINO – I’M NOT GOING ASTRAY, 7″
Chris Stroffolino is a former Silver Jew who moved to Los Angeles and found himself without a permanent home, living out of a 1983 Ford Econoline van in which he’d fitted an upright piano (the now famous “Piano Van”). He is a musician, a scholar with a Ph.D in Shakespearian studies and a published poet – but he was playing the piano for tips in order to survive, which is how Jeff Feuerzeig (the filmmaker responsible for The Devil And Daniel Johnston and other musician theme films.) discovered him. These three tracks were all recorded in the van in Griffith Park, Los Angeles. There is a cover of Alice Cooper’s “I Never Cry”
‘O’ LEVEL – PSEUDO PUNK, LP (co-release with Discos Alehop!)
The first vinyl reissue of the two official singles of British punk band ‘O’ Level: ‘East Sheen’ (recorded in November 1977) and ‘The Malcolm EP’ (recorded in December 1978). This compilation also includes three tracks from February 1979 never released on vinyl before, plus a rawer alternative version of ‘East Sheen’ dating from March 1978. ‘O’ Level was created in 1976 by London guitarist Ed Ball along with two friends from school. Almost same line-up recorded the first Television Personalities single in 1977.
TEENAGE FILMSTARS – (THERE’S A ) CLOUD OVER LIVERPOOL, LP (co-release with Discos Alehop!)
After ‘O’Level Ed Ball’s next, ska and mod influenced band was Teenage Filmstars in 1979-80. Their three official singles reissued on vinyl for the first time.

CRETIN STOMPERS (memphis/NYC ex-Magic Kids, Jay Reatard Band, Barbaras, Wavves) – Looking Forward To Being Attacked, debut LP
Infectious oozing pop slime. You will be rewarded with a dynamic explosion of space punk filtered through a clogged toilet of remarkable pop hooks and impeccable melodic surges that hit such wavering heights, you just might need some orange slices to keep your eyes on the road. And as if Cretin Stompers couldn’t give you any more ear candy to clean out your cavities with, they have culled two covers from The Styrenes and Dave Brock (of Hawkwind). Recommended if you like: Magic Kids, Barbaras, King Tuff, R. Stevie Moore, Ween, Jay Reatard. Full Album Stream
NONES – Midwestern Family Values, debut LP
„Jesus christ, this is awful.”
This LP from mutant noise trio NONES is no joy ride, and it’s nothing you want to relax with after a hectic day, but more of an instant agitator, a tool for stirring up your inner turmoil and a safe place to keep your paranoid thoughts where they can drift around in a contained space. It’s the best kind of death trip we’ve found in a long while, and while nothing sounds quite like them, it’s kind of like the soft lullaby accompanying a celebratory castration on a summer day, or maybe even a high-end hysterectomy on a fancy yacht. No smiley faces, hearts or flowers, just crying babies, broken dreams, fever sweat, double-vision and boiled-over belligerence, cooked down into a thick mess of vengeance and insanity. Recommended if you like: Jesus Lizard, Flipper, Grong Grong, Aluminum Knot Eye, Toupee, Negative Trend, Puffy Areolas, Von Lmo, MX-80 Sound, migraine
headaches.
SOUTHERN COMFORT – Suzanne, 7″
There’s just no way around it, this Southern Comfort 7” is possibly the most visceral bummer punk classic two-sider of 2014, and your head won’t be the same after you hear it blasting with the windows open on a warm sunny day. If you aren’t already familiar, be sure to check into all the other great bands Angie is currently involved with Ruined Fortune and Straight Arrows. Recommended if you like: Circle Pit, Angie, Dum Dum Girls, Wax Idols, Redd Kross, Miss Destiny

MARY MONDAY & THE BITCHES – I Gave My Punk Jacket To Rickie, 7″, archival series
One of the greatest west coast punk singles of the first wave is back in print. Former stripper Mary Monday had a life shrouded in mystery, and conflicting reports in the historic documentation as to the band and Mary’s origins are still baffling punkologists to this day, including her mysterious death a few years after this single’s release. As legend goes, she arrived in San Francisco from Vancouver in 1976 with green hair and put together a band while still in high school that played around the Filipino cabaret scene. In August of ’76 when The Ramones made their first West Coast appearances, the opening band for their big San Francisco debut show was Mary Monday & the Bitches. Later on, her band was alternately known as the Street Punks. “I Gave My Punk Jacket To Rickie,” it’s as raw and stupid as punk ever was. Recommended if you like: Bags, Avis Davis & Joy Rider, Avengers, Nuns, Alley Cats, Dishrags, Eyes, Beex.
THE MAN – Carousel of Sound, debut 7″ EP
Panicky/riveting/down-sizing guitar crunch, merging with the heavy dose of anxiety-riddled bass throb, over-worked, stress-wrenched drumming, and all slathered in “workplace harassment”-style vocals. Recommended for fans of Baseball Furies, Wire, Reatards, Persuaders, Guilty Pleasures.

„Meg, Richie, and I spent a lot of time drinking beer. At the time we asked her to be in the band, her lack of experience on drums was no greater than our lack of experience on guitars, so it wasn’t all that unusual. I think she’s really come into her own bashing away and is the absolute best drummer for Watery Love” to play heavy listening raw noisy garage punk.
Decorative Feeding LP and a 7″ by a competent authority: In The Red Records (US).
But Meg leaved the band so as to concentrate her absolutely different solo career. She was replaced by Ben from Philadelphian highly praised psych-blues-rock-jam band Birds Of Maya. (Another bird is in the Purling Hiss too.)

Jeffrey Lee Pierce was an influential songwriter and musician. He formed The Gun Club with Kid Congo Powers in 1979. Anyway Pierce was the head of the Blondie fan club, while Kid was the president of Ramones Fan Club in Los Angeles, and both of Mexican descent. The band was a pioneer of roots based punk rock. Kid Congo left the band before the recording of the first album to join The Cramps, but later came back more times. Later both joined Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds. Gun Club had lots of line-up change because of Pierce drug abuse and alcoholism. Nick Cave said: „He looked increasingly ill, I mean, we all did, but Jeffrey looked particularly so.” He died from brain hemorrhage at the age of 37 in 1996. He was HIV positive, and also suffering from cirrhosis and chronic hepatitis.
Cypress Grove was one of his collaborators of his delta blues influenced album which was released in 1992. After Pierce’s death Grove found a cassette containing unfinished song skeletons that he and Jeffrey had recorded. These were given out to some artists – friends, former band members and fans – to make own versions. On the first album We Are Only Riders (2010) and second one The Journey Is Long (2012, LISTEN!): Ravenoettes, Mark Lanegan, Debbie Harry, Nick Cave, Lydia Lunch, Mick Harvey, Kid Congo Powers, David Eugene Edwards (16 Horsepower), Sadies, Isobel Campbell, Barry Adamson, Warren Ellis (The Dirty Three), Tex Perkins, Tav Falco, Hugo Race and many others.

3 black brothers underwent from funk to punk in Detroit, 1974. The trio was called Death. They self-released only one single before they transformed into a gospel rock band in 1977, but later they turned into reggae. The Death stayed fully unknown until 2009.
