A Moon Duo Pénteken Budapesten Stop

Free State of Mind

Vrystaete is a record label founded to release free spirited music, more or less related to psychedelic, folklore and lo-fi sounds. Sub-label of electronic music publisher Enfant Terrible Records in Netherlands. New albums

vrystaete

Brunnen is a Dutch minimal psych folk project of Freek Kinkelaar from the very experimental pop band Beequeen. It’s sounding a bit like a lo-fi Legendary Pink Dots. He is a modern day acid troubadour telling small stories accompanied by minimal instrumentation

„I have been active in the experimental music scene since 1984, when I first started recording my battered homemade electric guitar, plugged in my 1940s tube radio system, which had been a precious gift from my grandparents. The resulting tapes featured a lot of abstract and loud noise, which I loved but the neighbours hated. (…) In the winter of 1988 long time friend Edward Kaspel of The Legendary Pink Dots asked me to fill in as support act for a live Pink Dots performance in January 1989. Since I didn’t have a clue what to do, I contacted Frans de Waard (whom I had met a few years previously) and together we formed Beequeen. This collaboration was initially based upon our mutual admiration of the ideas of German conceptual artist Joseph Beuys.”

Two German experimental projects in one: Baldruin + Brannten Schnüre = Diamantaner Oberhof. Subtle electronic sounds are mixed with snippets of accordion melodies, even though this is contemporary folk music it sounds very pure and authentic, like obscure lo-fi field recordings, bringing to mind some of the better Fonal recordings from the past (think Kemialliset Ystävät, Paavoharju and Islaja) or a more folklore minded Kaa Antilope, this is a sort of new primitivism and nothing less as in between archaic-electronic-ambient-folk-Dada-pop music

Heavy trip-hop-like music by Canadian band, Dralms

debut 7″ on Fulltime Hobby (UK) and Fat Possum Records (US) and digital single

Philosophy, Psychology, Poetry & Music

The multi-instrumentalist Emil Amos is known as drummer of post-rock band Grails and drone metal band OM. My favorite Amos’ project is the cinematic duo Lilacs & Champagne. It was created to be a direct tribute to the musical outsiders of the past. His very personal side project is Holy Sons with mainly acoustic, folkish and little psychedelic songs. His „also like” artists: Jandek, Scout Niblett and Damo Suzuki show the way.

holysons2

Holy Sons’ umpteenth album will be released on Thrill Jockey in September. Among the 4 bonus tracks Circle Jerks, Black  Flag and Slapshot covers. There’re free to download:

„I began to struggle with severe depersonalization, where nothing seems real. You don’t think you’re actually alive. You basically melt down the DNA of your personality, and become a puddle of broken-down potentialities. It took me years to figure out why I would still want to exist, let alone function in front of others. (…) I’m still trying to piece together my mind.”  Read the full interview

Escape before the mental hospital with the aid of Rolling Stones’ ex-manager

propero

Maximo Claps arrived in London in 2008 on a one-way ticket from Buenos Aires, aided by former Rolling Stones manager Andrew Loog Oldham, who had produced a record by Claps’  Argentinian band, but the group had fallen apart in a mess of drugs and acrimony. In those days Claps’ family were attempting to intervene by sending him to a mental hospital. The only option seemed to be to flee the country. As Claps recalls, „The day before flying to the UK I got run over by a car and had to escape hospital in order to make it so I arrived with bandages and my head all stitched up.”
A few weeks later Max walked into the vintage clothes shop where James Hoare (guitarist of the great Scottish indie pop band Veronica Falls) sat behind the counter reading a book on The Velvet Underground, and attempted to make a diversion while his kleptomaniac girlfriend stole a pair of boots. The distraction was such successful as that since then they have been writing and playing psychedelic pop music together, taking inspiration from Berlin-era Lou Reed, Jesus and Mary Chains, Television Personalities and West Coast Pop Art Experimental Band.

waxwitch

„Take me far from everyone.” A social extrovert wax witch with keyboards and guitar plays party punk. But I would go away from that party after 10 min, because his songs are cruelly long on this album.  Above 3 min! But he hasn’t enough talent to do such things. He should stay under 3 min.

Futeisha, a brand new project on the flourishing Italian psychedelic scene. It’s a solo effort of psychedelic rock band La Piramide di Sangue guitarist Juan Francisco Scassa. He is not alone sure. His mates are from such great rock band as Movie Star Junkies and Vernon Sélavy. Instead of rock they play mystical mish-mash folk, or „Occultism and Kebab.”

„Dannato” cassette on Brigadisco (Italy) and Old Bicycle Records (Switzerland). Cover art by Paula H. Satán (of JC Satán). It based on an engraving of Pieter Bruegel the elder.

Futeisha. In Japanese: Outlaws. It was an anarchist group in the early 1920s. Its two leaders was sentenced to death for high treason, but it was changed to life imprisonment. The woman tore the pardon letter up and refused to say thank the emperor. She committed suicide in the cell at her age of 23.  The man released after 22 years in 1945, later became a North-Korean politician.

nick nicely again

nicknicely

Born in Greenland on a stopover during a transatlantic flight in 1959. Grew up in London on his parents classical music collection and radio pop of the 60s. When almost every- body started to play in punk groups he mixed 60s psychedelia with 80s electronics. Self-released his first single in 1980. It was re-released in same year by German Hansa Records, and became a small hit in France and Holland. This success was the cause of remove of the song at the last minute from Some Bizzare Album in 1981. It was the new wave synth-pop scene first manifestation with such groups as Depeche Mode and Soft Cell. Nick was signed by EMI, but after a single in 1982 he retired from the spotlight. In the late 80s and early 90s under various monikers he was involved in Acid House and Rave scene. The first nick nicely album with his two singles and unreleased tracks recorded between 1978 and 2004 was published in 2004, and was re-released repeatedly. His first ever live show was in 2008. Since then he shared the stage with Hawkwind, John Maus, Maria Minerva, Ariel Pink and more. The first real time nick nicely album titled Lysergia was released in 2011 on cassette on Burger Records. And the second is coming in September, but I think it will be almost same thing than Lysergia was.
